Ron DeSantis has positioned himself as arguably the best governor in America.
That has caused many Democratic politicians to criticize him endlessly.
And Eric Adams took one swipe at DeSantis that failed miserably.
One way for Democratic politicians to give themselves a notoriety boost is to attack Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Both Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer have done it, and now New York City Mayor Eric Adams is getting in on the act.
The NYC Mayor went after DeSantis on alleged attacks against “LGBTQ+ neighbors”
While DeSantis was visiting New York, Adams took the opportunity to deliver a cheap shot to the Florida Governor.
Adams wrote on Twitter, “Welcome to NYC, [Governor DeSantis], a place where we don’t ban books, discriminate against our LGBTQ+ neighbors, use asylum seekers as props, or let the government stand between a woman and health care. We’re happy to teach you something about values while you’re here.”
America’s Governor hit back with remarks focusing on crime
DeSantis did not respond directly to Adams, but he subtly took a jab at him by detailing the crime problems in the city.
DeSantis wrote on Twitter, “I visited Staten Island to talk about how law & order has been central to FL’s success. FL leads the nation in protecting [law enforcement officers] & our crime rate is at a 50-year low, while NYC saw a 23% surge in major crime in 2022. Anti-police politicians should stop catering to the woke mob.”
DeSantis’s response was a perfect illustration of why New Yorkers and other blue-state residents are flocking to Florida.
Adams even put billboards in Florida in hopes of enticing people back to the state of New York, but migration patterns suggest that effort has not borne any fruit.
Crime is a major reason why Republicans over-performed in New York State in the Midterm elections, and Governor Kathy Hochul only narrowly held off Republican challenger Lee Zeldin.
As for Adams’s claim of using “asylum seekers as props,” Adams put illegal aliens on buses to Canada.
He has also begged the Biden administration for assistance, something that red states have been clamoring for nonstop.
And Adams’s claim that DeSantis is discriminating against “LGBTQ+ neighbors” is bunk.
The basis for that attack is Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which simply bars public school employees from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.
The bill was so sensible that even a majority of Democrats in the state supported it.
Democrats can continue to take potshots at DeSantis, but their attacks are falling flat.
