Melina Abdullah, who serves as a professor of Pan-African Studies at Cal State University Los Angeles, took her disdain for Taylor Swift to a new level after accusing her supporters of racism.
On X, Abdullah proudly labels herself in her bio as a “Professor of Pan-African Studies at Cal State LA, #BlackLivesMatter organizer, Pan-Africanist, Hip Hop scholar, daughter of God, womanist, truth-teller, mama”
And, on the 11th Abdullah tweeted on X, “Why do I feel like it’s slightly racist to be a Taylor Swift fan?”

This tweet immediately caused outrage, with some users asking her to clarify this controversial stance. Adbullah obliged, adding, “I said FEEL, not think. Kind of like that feeling I get when there are too many American flags.”
She later added, “Folks think they’re attacking me by asking why I think everything is racist…I’m not offended. Virtually everything is racist.”
Abdullah is no stranger to controversy, and in 2019, Abdullah gained notoriety for rushing to Jussie Smollett’s defense after his infamous hoax, without skipping a beat as investigators combed over the details.
Per Abdullah on Black Lives Matter’s official website, “In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom. While policing at-large is an irredeemable institution, CPD is notorious for its long and deep history of corruption, racism, and brutality.”
