Government schools are battlegrounds in today’s culture war.
During the pandemic, parents learned just how radical K-12 education has become.
Now a school board member issued one chilling message to parents about their kids.
Perhaps one of the few silver linings of COVID is that distance learning allowed parents to see firsthand the radical nonsense their children were learning in schools.
Simultaneously, journalist Christopher Rufo exposed the neo-Marxist doctrine of Critical Race Theory (CRT) that had already seeped into education and several other major institutions.
Fringe ideas like CRT and gender theory spurred parents to get involved in their children’s education like they never had before.
And teachers unions, administrators, and school board members have decided to go to war with concerned parents.
In York, Pennsylvania, a school board member named Richard Robinson wrote a scathing op-ed ripping parents who have shown up to voice their concerns about the curriculum and onerous COVID mandates.
Robinson whined about school board meetings’ requirements to be open to the public and wrote:
“This provision gives residents of a school district the chance to vent their spleens about exorbitant taxes or demand subjects be taught properly the way they were during the most frigid period of the Cold War. In the past, more often than not, nobody showed up . . . Not these days. As social media outlets, national news broadcasts and our local newspapers tell us, school boards are now the new battleground in the fight for America’s future.”
Robinson highlighted an important detail when he said that nobody used to show up to the meetings.
Leftists have been using tactics like this for decades to capture institutions despite not having majority support.
For example, in various organizations such as labor unions, hardcore leftists would wait until the end of meetings when exhausted members had already left, then pass measures with the minimum quorum necessary.
Letists had been given free rein in education for decades, but now they can no longer operate in silence.
Robinson continued, “With all due respect to the men and women who snarl, ‘I’m a taxpayer! You work for me!’ No, I don’t work for you. I was elected by people who voted to represent you . . . It is not the same thing. You may also be surprised to learn every member of a school board is a taxpayer, too. I come from a long line of taxpaying men and women.”
“I don’t work for you” should appear in campaign ads to oust Robinson and his ilk.
Radical school board members do not get to do whatever they want.
Later in the op-ed, Robinson says parents have the “choice” to withdraw their kids from the district and enroll elsewhere.
School choice proponents have been advocating for that for years, but they have been opposed by radicals like Robinson.
Also, homeschooling has reached an all-time high.
The fringe leftists in government education are on their heels for the first time, and they’re lashing out in ways that further expose their true agenda.
