There’s nothing leftists like better than an endless spending spree.
And that’s exactly what they’re getting with COVID-19 hysteria.
Now one group of lawmakers in one state are basically making the forever-pandemic official.
Republican lawmakers in California tried to push through a resolution that would have ended Governor Gavin Newsom’s emergency powers.
Lake Elsinore Senator Melissa Melendez introduced the measure saying it’s past time to restore the balance between California’s three branches of government.
“As infection and hospitalization rates continue to drop, it’s time for the state to allow local governments to take the lead and address emergencies locally without the shotgun approach of a statewide emergency,” Melendez said. “It is time for the legislature to reassert its constitutional authority as the legislative body of this state and end this endless emergency.”
But leftists love emergencies.
And in a state where crippling regulations are a normal part of life, healthcare and firefighting industry groups are also opposed to ending the mandate since the current “emergency” situation allows them to hire out-of-state workers.
Hospitals are also allowed to use “emergency” space and are getting federal taxpayer money.
“If this waiver were to be ended today, we would lose those thousands of workers and that space overnight,” Kathryn Austin Scott with the California Hospital Association said. “Patients would be seeing longer wait times, potentially forcing them to wait on care and unfortunately, would result in worse patient outcomes.”
The fact that people are better off during an “emergency” than leading life normally testifies to the draconian wasteland leftist lawmakers have done their level best to create.
The measure to cut off Newsom’s emergency powers never even made it to the Senate floor for a vote.
It was killed in the Committee on Governmental Organization by a vote of 8-4.
Incredibly, California isn’t alone.
More than two years after the COVID-19 pandemic was sparked in Wuhan, China, 22 states still have an official state of emergency in effect.
Democrats briefly stepped away from COVID hysteria, but Fauci and friends are on a power high and can’t quite seem to give it up.
Dr. Anthony Fauci was on television this last week spinning up drama over a BA.2 variant – a more transmissible strain of Omicron.
“Whether or not that is going to lead to another surge, a mini surge or maybe even a moderate surge, is very unclear because there are a lot of other things that are going on right now,” Fauci told ABC News.
It seems likely the “other things” going on involve a power struggle between Democrats up for election in November and leftists dead set on keeping an iron grip on Americans’ behavior.
