Smug arrogance and a sense of superiority, where elected officials need not live by the same rules they inflict everyone else, has been a hallmark of the far-left.
That’s one of the “tells” that their preferred policies are unpopular – otherwise they’d happily adhere to them.
Now, in yet another example of left-wing hypocrisy, one far-left Congresswoman has been outed for spending our tax money on that which she would deny ordinary Americans.
The Daily Caller reports that Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) spent thousands of taxpayers’ dollars on private security, after repeated calls to defund the police, according to new information from the Statement of Disbursements of the House.
The Statement shows that Pressley spent $63,000 of her Member Representational Allowance, which is taxpayer-funded money authorized annually by the Committee on House Administration (CHA), to allow members’ offices to be appropriately funded on “security service” in 2021.
But this action seems out of place with Pressley’s rhetoric when it comes to defunding the police.
Pressley said during a 2020 interview with Time Magazine that defunding the police is “about true reparations” and “investment in our communities which have historically been divested from.”
In an interview with CNN last summer, Pressley doubled down on her position, standing by her support of defunding police, saying, “I support a radical reimagining of community safety and public safety, which means reallocating and not further investing in a carceral state.”
Crime levels have risen in her district and across the country, but the Congresswoman still values her own safety while the less politically connected don’t have access to the same kind of protection from lawbreakers.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), called Pressley out for her hypocrisy, telling the Daily Wire in an interview, “Ayanna Pressley and her fellow Squad members have repeatedly called for our police to be defunded while simultaneously paying top dollar for their own private security with taxpayer funds. All while violent crime rates are surging across our cities. Pressley and the rest of the Squad want police for them but not for us. Democrats are the party of elitist hypocrites and defunding the police. The American people know this, and that is why this November there will be a red tsunami.”
Democrats have used “defund the police” as a rallying cry for more than a year, but Joe Biden tried to backtrack in last Tuesday’s State of the Union address when he said America needs to fund the police (after calling to divert money away from cops during the 2020 election campaign).
The hard-left Squad may still call for defunding the police, but Democrat elites know the political winds have clearly shifted, and the voters may well provide a reality check to the rest of the Party this November.
