Both the Republicans and Democrats have to answer plenty of questions about leadership moving forward.
The Democrats in particular have a weak slate of replacements.
And one Senator showed Pelosi isn’t the only Dem leader whose time has passed with a response that left reporters astounded.
People are beginning to question the politicians from the Silent Generation and Baby Boomer cohort that are clinging to power.
Joe Biden is 80 years old and clearly in cognitive decline.
Nancy Pelosi is 82 years old and some in the party were clearly itching to retire her.
They succeeded, at least in part, with Pelosi announcing Thursday that she would remain in Congress but would not run for leadership when Democrats are in the minority in the new Congress.
Pelosi may be moving toward the pasture, but her California colleague Senator Dianne Feinstein is 89 years old, and seems to be in worse shape than either Pelosi or even Biden.
Sen. Feinstein’s colleagues are worried about the Democrat’s mental acuity
Even left-wing outlets have voiced concerns about her mental acuity, and she did not allay those concerns in a recent interview where she appeared to be oblivious to previous statements she’d made.
Red State reported that “rumors have been swirling…that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s mental health has been steadily deteriorating, with some in the Democratic Caucus questioning her ability to continue to serve in the office she’s held since 1992. A story filed by Politico prior to [Justice Amy Coney] Barrett’s eventual nomination and confirmation hearings stated that there was ‘widespread concern’ on the Democratic side amongst Senators and aides alike over whether or not she was capable of performing her duties, which at the time included being the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The report also noted that Feinstein ‘sometimes gets confused by reporters’ questions, or will offer different answers to the same question depending on where or when she’s asked.’ As it turns out, that is exactly what happened during a recent exchange between Feinstein and a journalist from Business Insider. From the way it sounded, the 89-year-old Senator was so out of sorts that an aide had to step in and correct her multiple times.”
Dianne Feinstein (89) was asked by a reporter about whether she’ll seek to become President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the person third line to the presidency.

Hard leftists within the Democrat Party are likely eager to see Feinstein go.
A liberal by any normal standard, Feinstein has been attacked from the Left recently.
Feinstein refused to bend the knee to radical climate activists from the Sunrise Movement who attempted to use small children as political pawns.
Feinstein also once opposed illegal immigration, although the entire Democrat Party has shifted toward open borders.
Her term ends in 2024, but Democrats seem enthusiastic about shoving her out the door as soon as possible.
