Democrats seized control of local, state, and federal elected offices across the nation after the 2018 and 2020 elections.
A wave of radical “woke” policies ensued and the disastrous effects have already started to reveal themselves.
Now, even Oregon Democrats had to put an end to this radical drug bill.
Oregon overplayed its hand with this horrible pro-drug bill
As it stands, 24 states have legalized marijuana for recreational use, with six others decriminalizing marijuana in some way or fashion.
The push to legalize weed has been a long time in the making and Democrats have historically stood behind these measures under the guise of promoting racial justice and medical freedom.
However, in 2020, the Oregon voters approved Ballot Measure 110, which effectively decriminalized the possession and use of all drugs, including hard drugs such as fentanyl, heroin, and LSD.
Instead of facing legal consequences for possessing small amounts of drugs, offenders were instead issued a $100 citation or could choose to have a health assessment that could lead to drug action counseling.
Just a few years after this radical and unprecedented measure went into effect, Oregon lawmakers have overturned the measure with House Bill 4002, citing the damage it has done to communities all across Oregon.
According to Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), “The Oregon Senate on Friday passed House Bill 4002 on a 21-8 vote, with support from both Democrats and Republicans. It now heads to the desk of Gov. Tina Kotek, who has declined to say whether she supports the bill, but has signaled she is open to reintroducing penalties for drug possession.”
OPB added, “HB 4002 would upend a voter-approved decriminalization policy that has been in place for three years. Under the bill anyone caught with small amounts of illicit drugs like meth or fentanyl could face up to six months in jail. The bill offers people options to pursue drug treatment rather than receiving criminal penalties, and allows people convicted of possession to have their record automatically expunged.”
Republican Senate Minority Leader Tim Knopp addressed the passage of HB 4002, telling OPB, “Measure 110 was not what Oregonians thought it was. They were told that their family, and their friends, were going to get treatment for addiction. And what it turned into was a free-for-all of public drug use, increased fentanyl, opioid overdose deaths increasing exponentially, and Oregon becoming seen as a national dumpster fire.”
The passage of Oregon’s HB 4002 could signal a shift in attitudes toward drug use
As Oregon Senator Tim Knopp noted, many Oregon voters supported the decriminalization of drugs thinking that it could help drug addicts get the support they need.
However, like many Democrat policies, this was nothing more than a Trojan horse to allow unfettered drug use in Oregon.
Rampant hard drug use has already wreaked havoc on Oregon, and its neighboring states of California and Washington.
The tolerance of illegal drug use in Oregon over the last several years has likely compounded the severity of this plague.
