Leftist politicians have an incredible ability to disconnect from reality.
And that seems to get exponentially worse when they’re up for election.
Now one blue state Governor is busy bragging while ignoring the ugly truth about his state.
California’s Governor Gavin Newsom is still swaggering after making it through a recall election last year.
But he might just have bought too much of his own press.
“I think all of us at least here can agree that people have always looked to California for inspiration,” Newsom said during his state of the state address this week. “Now, in the midst of so much turmoil with stacking stresses and dramatic social and economic change, California is doing what we’ve done for generations, lighting out [for] the territory ahead of the rest, expanding the horizon of what’s possible.”
The only thing Newsom’s been inspiring lately is a mass exodus out of his troubled state.
According to the California Family Council the state has become a “poster child” for how “progressive policies burden families economically and socially.”
The organization says more than 360,000 residents left the Golden State during 2020 and 2021.
Many left behind probably can’t even afford to leave.
Back in 2019, the state already had the highest poverty rate in the nation with more than a third of Californians living below or near the poverty line in the state.
Once COVID-19 hysteria set in, Democrats then led the charge to devastate local economies with pointless COVID-19 related restrictions.
As a result, nearly a third of all restaurants in the state shut down in 2020.
Considering that people with homes to sell are fleeing the state and people with the lowest paying jobs are losing them, it’s no wonder the state leads in one area: California has the highest unemployment rate in the nation.
It’s been hovering between 7.3% and 6.9% (an improvement over 8.7% from last year).
No matter how Newsom likes to spin his nonsense, chances are California’s unemployed would feel a lot more inspired if he focused on spurring job growth through lifting regulatory burdens rather than spending taxpayer money to build electric car chargers in poor neighborhoods.
Meanwhile economies in many red states are smoking hot, with Nebraska boasting an unemployment rate of only 1.7% in December.
No doubt, plenty of families are about ready to trade in California’s beaches for Nebraska’s corn fields and a good paying job with a nice, affordable single-family home.
It’s truly stunning how leftist politicians can band together and destroy anything – even paradise.
