The 2020 Defund the Police movement dealt a massive, demoralizing blow to the men and women in blue.
Now a nationwide shortage of law enforcement officers is taking a toll on blue states—and emboldening criminals.
And that meant a Connecticut homeowner found himself taking on all comers before he taught them a lesson.
Law enforcement departments at every level in Connecticut spent much of 2022 scrambling to find more police officers.
Those on duty say there’s also a growing problem with teens stealing cars because they know they can get away with it in the current system.
“They are doing this in broad daylight. They don’t care because they feel nothing’s going to happen to them,” Wolcott Police Chief Edward Stephens explained earlier this year.
“These juveniles know that nothing is going to happen to them when they steal a car. It’s a property crime, they don’t care,” he added. “The problem is they’re getting bolder and bolder. Now they are carrying guns and shooting at people. Something [has to change] so we can protect the citizens that we’re sworn to protect.”
Stunning video shows the mele
Now a stunning new video from nearby Rocky Hill, Connecticut illustrated exactly how far things have gotten out of hand.
Police in the Hartford suburb recently released home surveillance camera video showing a would-be carjacker coolly slip into a red sedan.
Seconds later the vehicle owner comes barreling out of his house to stop the thief.
He yanks the man out of the car and begins tussling with him, ultimately pulling the thief’s hoodie over his head.
“Get out of here!” he yells.
Soon the offender was joined by another thug who started kicking the car owner repeatedly in the head and chest.
Two more thugs then joined the fray as a woman in the background screamed, “I’m calling the cops.”
It looked like a losing battle, but the car owner—who is likely in the trades based on the work van also parked in the driveway—refused to give up.

According to police, he did end up needing to be treated at the hospital.
Police say they’re relieved he wasn’t more seriously injured.
“Thank God that he wasn’t seriously hurt. We’re seeing a lot of these incidents throughout the state and the country that people are intervening, and the suspect may have a weapon,” Rocky Hill Police Sgt. Jeffrey Foss-Rugan told NBC Connecticut.
Of course, that trend has everything to do with pro-crime policies convincing criminals that crime pays.
And these days it’s often up to average citizens to convince them otherwise.
