Leftists love to blame guns for all the world’s problems.
Now one big city District Attorney is using his “street cred” to get support for gun control.
And anyone who has ever been in the bad part of a big city will know it’s the worst argument ever.
Brooklyn’s District Attorney wants to get guns off the street in “underserved” neighborhoods so people don’t feel like they have to carry guns for protection.
While his contemporary, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg wants to let criminals get away with everything short of murder or “serious” sexual assault – over in Brooklyn, Eric Gonzalez wants to come down hard on firearm related incidents.
“When I was a young man, I knew a lot of young people who carried guns, and they carried guns because they did not believe that the police or the criminal justice system could protect them, and they were going to protect themselves,” Gonzalez said. “We have to end that.”
It seems like letting Black Lives Matter rioters take over big cities across America only reinforced the idea that police can’t and won’t be able to protect them.
But rather than focus on the crime, Gonzalez is using surging crime rates – no doubt fueled by pro-crime leftist policies – to target the tools honest citizens use to protect themselves.
“Most of the people who are arrested for gun crimes are not incarcerated,” Gonzalez said. “About 80 to 90 percent of the people who have been arrested for gun possession in Brooklyn are out. Either they’ve made bail or no bail was set on their case.”
While actually dealing with true criminals would be a step in the right direction, there’s a massive difference between serious violent crimes and someone strolling around with a firearm for protection without the city-approved paperwork.
Gonzalez’s proposed bail reform “tweaks” are fundamentally flawed as they make the goal of getting guns off the streets rather than simply making sure crime doesn’t pay no matter the weapon of choice.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams took office in January and has already put together an “anti-gun” team in the New York Police Department.
Adams then had to defend the creation of the new unit against accusations that it will become just like a controversial anti-crime unit the department had in the past.
“If you don’t follow the law, you’re not going to serve in my police department,” Adams said during a radio interview on WBLS.
While they sometimes reference dealing with the surge in crime that accompanied the “once-in-a-century pandemic,” law enforcement bosses in NYC don’t seem to bring up the biggest factor wreaking chaos on cities across the nation over the past two years: the Marxist Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization.
Back in November BLM promised to bring “riots, bloodshed” to the city if Adams were to bring back the anti-crime unit.
While NYC law enforcement bosses seem to enjoy pretending the group of powerful leftists don’t exist – a unit focused on disarming Americans seems calculated to please a group of central planners with aspirations to run the world.
