Democrats have gotten themselves into a pickle with everyday moms and dads who have children in public schools.
They gaslight parents into believing that everything in the curriculum is completely above board, but at the same time they audaciously proclaim parents should have no involvement in what their kids are learning – sentiment that sunk Terry McAuliffe’s political career in a deep blue state.
But leftists panicked when something unexpected happened at a school board meeting.
The Fairbanks, Alaska school district has had a longstanding policy regarding controversial issues in the classroom, whereby the district was to provide a process for discussing controversial issues that might arise.
Proposed revisions would have mandated that the schools teach divisive issues and conservative board members were concerned that this, along with other policies, created “just huge open doors” for ideologues to seize control of classrooms.
According to the Alaska Watchman, “The policy proposal comes on the heels of highly divisive curriculum changes the district has introduced in recent years, pushing LGBTQ themes, explicit sexual education, and many elements of critical race theory philosophy. For those who fail to embrace this agenda, the district has discussed ways of mandating compliance.”
School board member Matthew Sampson decided to let fellow board members and those attending the board meeting know exactly what’s in some of the edgier books on public library shelves.
In the video (at 3:31:25) Sampson begin to read from Kevin Kwan’s Sex and Vanity, but within a few seconds another board member, with the backing of the board President, immediately tried to shut him down.
After other board members and the school board President tried to shut him down, Sampson said, “I can tell you, if it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander. It’s in our schools. If the kids can read it, I don’t see what the problem is with reading a couple of excerpts from a book[.] […] If it’s too inappropriate for the school board, but it’s appropriate for the kids, I don’t know what to say.”
This is the game that leftists are playing in government-run schools.
Whether it’s age-inappropriate LGBT propaganda or Marxist Critical Race Theory, this leftist dogma is being sneakily inserted into school lessons and school libraries, and then when parents are incensed and protest at school board meetings they are told not to believe their lying eyes and often disrespected.
Even card-carrying liberals like Bill Maher understand what’s going on here.
The school closures in the wake of COVID put parents in a position where they shared the teaching duties with school teachers, and many parents rightfully questioned what was on the agenda.
You can’t tell parents that they need to take on a teacher’s responsibilities and then tell them they should have no say in what’s being taught, especially when the lesson is off the rails.
Teachers unions and Democrats have always been joined at the hip, and they are going to pay dearly at the polls in November.
