Advancements in technology in recent years have been a decidedly mixed bag.
There are more privacy concerns than ever before but increased surveillance can prove to be highly useful.
Now this horrific Oregon crime was captured live on a doorbell camera.
One doorbell camera in an Oregon neighborhood happened to be positioned at the right time and at the right place to catch an unspeakable crime as it occurred.
The video was recorded from around 10:48 PM on Sunday evening.
In it, a woman can be seen pounding on the door of a residence and looking nervously behind her.
That’s when a bearded man ran up to her, grabbed her from behind and carried her to a white truck parked nearby.
According to KGW, it was all captured by a Blink recording device at a home on Southeast 32nd Avenue and East Main Street.

The woman could be heard screaming “Please help me! Please help me!” as she was dragged away by the man.
The two then left in the white pickup truck.
Police investigators shared still shots from the doorbell camera video with the public and asked for help identifying the suspect and the victim.
After the images were circulated on social media, they were able to make an arrest.
This time, social media saved the day
In a statement, the Hillsboro Police Department said, “The suspect was arrested, and the victim is safe. The suspect and victim knew each other, and this was not a random attack. There is no danger to the public. The suspect is charged with Kidnapping.”
The HPD continued, “Thank you to all the community members who contacted us to provide tips and leads in this investigation.”
At this time, they aren’t releasing the name of the victim or the suspect.
The owner of the house, a woman named Marisol, says she heard the knocking on the door but not the screaming.
She went outside to check the scene but didn’t see anyone.
Then, after checking the camera footage, she called the police.
Marisol didn’t recognize the man or the woman who was attacked on the video, but she said, “She looked scared. In her voice, you could tell she was frantic, and she needed help, and the way she grabbed onto the door in the video when you see it, that is like, not normal.”
According to a recent report from KOIN, Hillsboro has an unwelcome distinction among Oregon’s large cities when it comes to crime.
In Oregon’s six largest cities, violent crime and property crime decreased overall from 2021 to 2022, according to the FBI’s preliminary Uniform Crime Report.
But that wasn’t the case in Hillsboro.
Of the six cities with populations over 100,000, Hillsboro was the only one that saw an increase in both violent crime and property crime.
FBI data shows there were 304 violent crimes committed in Hillsboro in 2022, a 7.8% increase from the year before.
Violent crime also increased by 17.9%.
