Democrat-run cities are falling apart.
Bad policies have begun to bear rotten fruit.
But a Democrat mayor compared himself to Jesus for one cringe reason.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is staring down the possibility of being a one-term mayor.
Adams, a former police commissioner, was elected as a moderate candidate, but New Yorkers are not getting the law and order they expected.
Adams also had to backtrack his rhetoric about New York being a “sanctuary” jurisdiction in light of illegal aliens overwhelming the city.
He has also come under investigation for alleged corruption.
During a recent public event, Adams patted himself on the back despite myriad problems.
Adams took a victory lap for having a “diverse” administration, then compared himself to Jesus.
The Mayor said, “Have you ever seen this much chocolate lead in the city of New York? … And then go down the line, look who’s here. This is representative of the city. That’s why people are hating on me. You’re trying to figure out, why the hating on me?”
According to Adams, his critics simply hate him for hiring black people, which is utterly absurd.
Adams continued, “First woman police commissioner of color…First Spanish-speaking police commissioner. First Spanish-speaking correction commissioner. Go through the line of what we’re doing in two years.”
Then Adams likened himself to Jesus Christ.
He said, “This is a Matthew 21 and 12 moment…Jesus walked in the temple, he saw them doing wrong in the temple. He did what? … I went to city hall to turn the table over.”
Adams then said that former Mayor David Dinkins was only criticized for being black.
He added, “It took us 30 years after what they did to David Dinkins, and who did we get after David Dinkins? Giuliani… [Critics] wore him down so much that black folks didn’t come out to vote…They said, ‘You know what, we’re not coming out.’ They just beat him and wore him down over and over and over again…David Dinkins was the one who passed the legislation for safe city, safe streets that allowed us to get the resources we needed to bring down crime in our city. And who benefited from it? Giuliani. Giuliani.”

That is an amazing bit of revisionist history.
This isn’t the first time Adams has brought up race to deflect criticism.
Last year, he responded to a frustrated citizen at a community meeting, “First, if you’re going to ask a question, don’t point at me and don’t be disrespectful to me. I’m the mayor of this city and treat me with the respect I deserve to be treated. I’m speaking to you as an adult. Don’t stand in front like you treated someone that’s on the plantation that you own.”
With the growing migrant crisis, potential corruption charges, and a far-left caucus that believes the mayor hasn’t gone far enough to the left, Adams could be in a heap of political trouble.
