Just when it seemed like the COVID insanity had started to subside there is now a fresh reminder that there is still a segment of the country that has gone bonkers.
And naturally the affliction is most acute on the Left coast.
Now a California high school barred students from attending graduation for this outrageous reason.
A suburban Los Angeles County school that made plans to prevent 70 seniors from participating in person in their outdoor graduation ceremonies is proof that the pandemic insanity is still occurring in the formerly Golden State.
Those excluded from participation in graduation ceremonies includes unvaccinated students who were kicked off the Granada Hills Charter School campus in January, vaccinated students where the school disputed their proof of vaccination and, eight special-needs students who were physically present on campus all school year under another school exemption from vaccination.
U.S. Congressman, Mike Garcia (who was born in Granada Hills), said on Facebook that “we’re having a bit of a problem” at GHCHS.
A student told Garcia that he is being prevented from walking at his own graduation strictly “because he’s not vaccinated.”
Garcia said, “It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see the emotion in this kid’s eyes. He was on the verge of tears and just sad that his administrators are not making this exception.”
According to the Congressman, the school’s executive director passed the buck to the administrative board. “She’s basically saying, ‘That’s the board’s policy. They’re following it with fidelity and without any exceptions.”
Garcia continued, saying, “It’s shameful because literally every other school in California . . . is allowing kids to show up to their own graduation regardless of vaccination status. Just allow them to show a negative COVID test and let them participate in a major milestone in their lives. These are young adults who have been working for 18 years for this moment and we’re depriving them of that opportunity, that pride and that joy of their families seeing them walk across the stage to get that diploma because of vaccine status. Let’s do the right thing.”
Parents’ rights groups say that the school’s exclusion of the special-needs students violates state and federal laws and one group said, “This makes Granada Hills Charter’s exclusion of these students an express violation of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and California’s Unruh Act.”
Don’t expect the die-hard COVID tyrants to give up their radicalism but, fortunately, it’s become pretty clear in recent months that the overall tide is turning toward liberty over COVID craziness.
