It’s yet another textbook case of misplaced priorities by a political leader in the Windy City.
That’s because amid significant safety and budgetary disasters he’s choosing to focus instead on divisive identity politics.
Now Brandon Johnson just spent millions of dollars in a way that will make your blood boil.
After years of city leaders proclaiming Chicago to be a “sanctuary city,” the wish has finally come true, but it turned out to be a case of being careful what is wished for.
As Joe Biden’s border crisis rages on, millions of illegal immigrants have arrived in the country over the past three years.
Tens of thousands have made their way to Chicago and now live in makeshift shelters and tents.
Some of these shelters have taken over city parks, leaving residents fuming and demanding that Johnson stop allowing illegal immigrants to settle in the city.
Amid the large influx to the population, crime rates have soared, and Johnson’s popularity has plummeted.
One recent poll conducted by Echelon Insights showed that on the specific issue of Johnson’s “management of immigrants transported to the city,” only 23 percent approved, while 64 percent disapproved.
With residents justifiably outraged, Johnson has now added insult to injury.
He’s committed a political “two-fer.”
Johnson’s forks over city funds in a racially biased way to benefit illegal immigrants
Not only has he committed to using millions of dollars in city funds on giveaways to illegals instead of legal residents, but he’s doing it in a divisive racialist way as well.
According to WFLD-TV, the mayor has partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, BJ’s Market, and other nonprofits by diverting $18 million to minority-owned businesses.
The money has been given exclusively to “black and brown” businesses to feed the thousands of illegal border crossers the city is housing.
At a press conference, Johnson said, “The $17 million investment for these 18 black and brown small businesses, is really the, um… it really captures what I call the soul of Chicago. It’s who we are. I actually think it’s quite fitting that we are in this wonderful small business because it has been black and brown small businesses that have stepped up in this moment, in this crisis, to respond to these families who are arriving here.”

The move was widely seen as an attempt by the mayor to get back in the good graces of his own constituency after he faced an open revolt during city council meetings last Summer and Fall during a massive immigration spike.
Johnson previously stated that he planned a trip to Texas to visit the border and see the chaos there with his own eyes, but that trip has yet to occur.
When Johnson was questioned about that at a recent press conference, he got defensive, saying, “You know, you all are asking me as if I am not a parent in this city. I get it, I’m mayor, I get it. I have a wife, I have children, they have schedules. And plus, we still have public safety we have to address, we still have the unhoused that we have to address. I still have a budget that I have to address, and I’m doing all of that with a black wife raising three black children on the west side of the city of Chicago.”

Immigration and border security are sure to be important issues, both in Chicago and nationally, during this November’s elections.
