Leftists usually ignore their own scandals or fall into somehow blaming Republicans.
But embarrassing allegations have the knives out for a top Democrat politician entrenched in one of the deepest blue enclaves in the South.
Because a sex scandal ensnared this blue city mayor and now Democrats are turning on her.
Democrats residents are getting more fed up with their leadership in New Orleans.
Business-as-usual politics is not working in New Orleans.
Democrats residents are getting more fed up with their leadership and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell could get recalled after a petition against her purportedly reached the requisite 50,000 signatures.
NOLA Mayor hit with “quiet quitting” allegations affair rumors
Cantrell has been accused of so-called quiet quitting, or turning her back on the job and doing as little work as possible.
Cantrell was also embroiled in a sex scandal involving a police detective.
Ellen Carter, the woman who organized the petition against Cantrell, once worked in the mayor’s social media department, but became disgusted.
Carter said that Cantrell “quiet quit” during her second term and it was hard to watch.
Predictably, a spokesperson for the mayor claimed that the recall effort was a Republican-led attack to “undermine and discredit the first Black woman mayor of New Orleans,” Fox News reported.
But Carter shot down that accusation.
She told a local reporter, “I am a black woman. I am a Democrat. My family has been Democrat. We are supporters of the Democratic Party forever. Two presidents called…our family when my dad died. Like, what are you talking about? I’m DNC through and through. Like, that’s crazy. And so this division in the city has to stop. The lies have to stop. We’re over it. Residents are tired of being lied to by this administration.”
The fact that true-blue Democrats are itching to kick Cantrell to the curb suggests how poorly she had done as mayor.
Carter told Fox News, “Right now our mayor doesn’t love New Orleans so the citizens and the residents stood up…We’re taking our city back, and we’re gonna save New Orleans.”
Recall campaign chairman Belden Batiste added, “Mayor LaToya, it ain’t that we hate you…You didn’t do your job, and you’re about to be fired.”
Cantrell allegedly had an “ongoing adulterous affair” with Detective Jeffrey Vappie, the former head of her police detail.
In divorce proceedings, Vappie’s wife claimed he was in a sexual relationship with a woman named Mrs. “L.C.”
Vappie is currently on suspension pending an investigation into irregularities in his pay.
On top of that, Cantrell got caught on camera flipping off the crowd as she rode on a Mardi Gras float.
If thousands of signatures don’t get thrown out, Cantrell could be in serious trouble regarding the recall effort.
It seems as though she’s lost the faith of many Democrats.
