Back in 2020 Marxist Black Lives Matter leaders made a massive takeover effort ahead of the 2020 Presidential election.
Leaders in big blue cities were quick to embrace the lawless horde.
Now one city is paying the price as it faces a “crime tsunami” that threatens to break records for the bloodiest year ever – and it’s finally caught someone’s attention.
Denver’s police chief is calling on local lawmakers to get better policies in place as the city faces a wave of violent crime that’s threatening to overtake 1981 as the city’s bloodiest year on record when 100 people were murdered.
There was already a 51% increase in homicides in 2020 when the Black Lives Matter riots swept across the nation with calls to defund the police.
But in one community after the next, “mental healthcare” alternatives to traditional policing are failing.
“This is not the panacea, that you just throw out a bunch of alternative responses, and crime just magically goes down,” Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said during a recent town hall meeting. “You have to address the criminal behavior, and you have to address criminal behavior in a smart way.”
Already this year Denver police have responded to 60 homicides.
Last year there were 59 homicides in the same time frame leading officials to worry that the city may exceed the total of 96 for 2021.
Murders all across the United States skyrocketed by almost 30% in the wake of the defund the police movement.
Even some Democrats recognize that the current approach is driving communities off a cliff.
“What we’re dealing with is the way that repeat offenders in the state of Colorado are being treated. And they’re not being treated like the criminals they are,” Mitch Morrissey, a Democrat former Denver district attorney told National Review.
“All you’re really doing is saying, ‘Hey, please don’t do that again. And pretty please with sugar on top, come back to court on this day,'” George Brauchler—a former Colorado district attorney and state prosecutor—told Fox News referring to criminals who aren’t even being carted off to jail after they commit a crime.
Brauchler added that when people think of Colorado they usually envision an upscale skiing getaway, but “what they really should be thinking about is a runaway crime tsunami. That’s what we’ve got.”
You can always trust a bunch of leftists to destroy any bit of paradise in record time.
