The leadership class is full of left-wing establishment figures.
Their footprint can be found in virtually every blue jurisdiction.
And a “woke” city official sent one infuriating message to the Attorney General who railroaded Donald Trump.
It’s hard to find a group of Americans more blue-collar than the FDNY.
Yet New York City firemen are being led by a “woke” commissioner who cannot stand them.
In fact, FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh wrote in a text message to New York Attorney General Letitia James that she could not “fix” her firefighters.
James’ vendetta
James famously campaigned on the promise to “get” Donald Trump, and she did when she brought a bogus lawsuit against him for fraud because he allegedly over-inflated his assets to get more favorable bank loans.
However, Trump paid back the loans with interest, and the banks testified that they would love to do future business with Trump.
Even though there was no injured party, James brought the outrageous suit, and Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay an eye-popping $443 million fine, which Trump had to pay before being able to pursue an appeal.
The fine was later reduced to $175 million, and Trump paid.
FDNY Commissioner embarrassed by her own firefighters
As a result, FDNY rank-and-file members booed James at an event.
The gesture caused Commissioner Kavanagh great shame because she is part of the elite leadership class.
Kavanagh wrote in a text message to James, “I should have called you last night, but I’ve been trying to find a way to say I’m sorry that doesn’t involve me apologizing for men who don’t deserve such grace. I haven’t succeeded. I am sorry that we didn’t stop them and that I can’t fix them.”
The men of the FDNY must be “fix[ed],” according to Kavanagh.
Some might even say they need to be reeducated.
Kavanagh also thanked James for showing her that handling “bullying, threats and lots of booing with grace would be part of the gig if you ever wanted to make big change. So thank you for that. I care about you and will do anything for you, always. . .”
The Commissioner’s comments are illustrative of how the leadership class thinks about everyone else.
They are part of the unwashed masses that must be fixed.
They are the deplorables.
Of course, if they had booed Trump, they would have been treated as heroes by the Democrats and their media allies.
James’ attack on Trump’s business was so jarring that Governor Kathy Hochul had to assure New Yorkers that the Attorney General’s pursuit of Trump was a one-off incident.
Hochul said in an interview, “I think that this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about, because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior.”
New York Democrats are sending a very clear message.
Trump and the people who support him have been marked as problems that need to be “fixed.”
