After years of increased crime and radical demonstrations, it’s not surprising that tensions are running high.
The frustration with the political leaders responsible for what now ails the city is palpable.
Now the NYPD Chief’s response to a city official upset about Columbia crackdown is causing conniptions.
Socialist New York City Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán is a complete and total radical.
She has a history of calling for defunding the police.
She’d also leave abused women and children to fend for themselves, having called for mental health workers to tend to domestic disturbances rather than law enforcement.
Cabán even made it a quest to promote restorative justice programming for youths and advised business owners to use alternative ways to confront unhinged people.
Essentially, if all were left to her, the crime rate in the Big Apple would be far worse than it is even now.
Given her political worldview and history, it’s unsurprising where she now stands on the issue of the ongoing anti-Israel protests at Columbia University.
On Wednesday, Cabán sharply criticized the police for arresting students who had illegally occupied an academic hall at the university.
The cops were dispatched after the University called for help amid the chaos.
Police detained those who were self-barricaded inside the building on Tuesday.
Radicals Councilwoman: Protesters are “trailblazing leaders and critical thinkers”
Rather than criticizing the behavior of the students and those referred to by Mayor Eric Adams (D) as “outside agitators,” Cabán instead praised the protesters as “trailblazing leaders and critical thinkers.”
On social media, Cabán wrote, “[Tuesday] night’s authoritarian conduct by Columbia University administrators and Mayor Adams’ NYPD were a colossal disgrace, a horrifying affront to democracy and free speech, and an abject failure of public safety.”

She continued, “Our leaders are teaching students that not only won’t their peaceable assembly and petition of government result in a redress of their grievances, in fact, it will land them in jail. This is an extremely dangerous lesson to teach and will come back to haunt those teaching it… shame on them.”
But NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell was having none of it.
NYPD Chief on radical councilwoman: “This is coming from a person who hates our city”
In response, he wrote, “I started to read this garbage and quickly realized this is coming from a person who hates our city and certainly does not represent the great people of NYC.”
He then spun Cabán’s words against her, adding, “[Tuesday] night’s criminal conduct by entitled nonaccountable students and the support they receive from Council-member Tiffany Cabán is a colossal disgrace. A horrifying affront to democracy and proper behavior from people who are not accountable for their behavior. This was an abject failure of how civilized people are expected to behave in society while continually acting like a perpetual victim. Remember everyone, if you want change, seek the change you want be getting involved. Then you know what to do.”
Leftist officials predictably pounced with Councilwoman Nantasha Williams writing, “How is an official government account allowed to speak to another government official in this way? Regardless of how you feel and where you stand ideologically, this is dangerous and a gross use of an official government account!”
Chell later deleted his response after a cavalcade of leftist whining on X, but it’s likely that his sentiment meshed well with a silent majority.
Democrat officials are terrified at the prospect of student demonstrations hurting their electoral chances, like what happened when mass protests in 1968 led to the election of Republican Richard M. Nixon.
Latest polling suggests that they are right to be concerned, and additional public spectacles are unlikely to help their cause.
