Leftist politicians often gain power when they masquerade as being more moderate than they really are.
But every so often the mask slips and even friendly media can’t cover for their radicalism.
Now, a New York Democrat is calling for reeducation camps for MAGA supporters.
The Empire State certainly has more than its fair share of far-left radicals that have managed to gain power.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) told all 5.4 million of the state’s Republicans, “Just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, OK? You are not New Yorkers.”
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D) even went so far as to pull a fire alarm to disrupt a House vote on a measure to prevent a federal shutdown, something Democrats supposedly thought was important.
He was later censured for his stunt.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) sabotaged a deal with Amazon that resulted in a loss of thousands of jobs in her congressional district, and then even bragged about doing so.
But now, a wannabe Congresswoman may as well have taken note of all of this and said, “Hold my locally sourced soy latte.”
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) represents rural Northern New York, a part of the state considerably more conservative than much of New York City.
She’s gotten a new challenger, but given the latest developments, Stefanik probably won’t be sweating the competition very much.

In a public Zoom call, Democrat challenger Paula Collins said, “Even if we were to have a resounding blue wave come through, as many of us would like, putting it all back together again after we’ve gone through this MAGA nightmare and re-educating basically, which, that sounds like a rather, a re-education camp. I don’t think we really want call it that. I’m sure we can find another way to phrase it.”

Sensing her oopsie, Collins later attempted to clarify her remarks.
In an email to Fox News, the wannabe dictator said, “We currently have lawmakers, including Rep. Elise Stefanik, who mis-quote or mis-understand the law. Even if MAGA were to be resoundingly defeated, we would need to engage in widespread civics education, which both red and blue voters acknowledge has been slipping in recent years.”
That’s about the best attempt at damage control as one could make, but given the circumstances, it’s unlikely it helped her case.
There’s no good way to walk back the suggestion of forcibly changing the beliefs of your political opponents.
Collins may have found her beliefs to be more palatable in Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union.

Alex DeGrasse, a senior advisor to Elise Stefanik, told Fox News in response, “This radical New York City Democrat Socialist who literally is renting a bed and breakfast room in NY-21 was caught on tape saying she wants to force Trump voters through ‘re-education camps. Everyone knows she will be defeated by Elise Stefanik by a historic margin.”
DeGrasse isn’t wrong and, in this case, thankfully so.
