States that are completely Democrat-run are imposing burdensome rules and regulations.
Luckily for residents in Virginia, things are trending in the opposite direction.
Now, Glenn Youngkin’s action against Bidenmobiles has Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fuming.
The Commonwealth of Virginia, not that long ago, was once a solidly Republican state.
But demographic shifts accelerated during the George W. Bush presidency as tens of thousands of left-wing voters moved into the northern part of the state.
These newcomers were seeking employment with various government agencies and private-sector employers that have contracts with the federal government.
The phrase “demography is destiny” rings true here.
As the makeup of the electorate shifted, the state’s political leanings shifted as well, and Virginia now more often than not elects Democrats to state and federal offices.
Even in unlikely places, when Democrats overreach, Republicans have opportunities
But when leftist Democrats overreach, as they often do, Republicans still have an opportunity here.
During a debate two months before the gubernatorial election, Democrat Terry McAuliffe, a Clintonite not-so-affectionately referred to as “The Punk” by the late Rush Limbaugh, accidentally told everyone what he really believed, and it was a doozy.
McAuliffe said, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach. I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions.”
It was a disastrous thing to say, especially since parents had been asked to share in the educational responsibilities for their kids during COVID.
Many pundits say that those words cost McAuliffe the election and Republican Glenn Youngkin won by about 2%.
Youngkin: No more California craziness on Bidenmobiles
This turned out to be a very good thing for Virginians tired of the state’s Democrats letting California set policy on electric vehicles.
Gov. Youngkin and his Attorney General Jason Miyares announced that the state is exiting California’s burdensome, expensive, and environmentally damaging electric vehicle mandate.Â
Once again, Virginia is declaring independence – this time from a misguided electric vehicle mandate imposed by unelected leaders nearly 3,000 miles away from the Commonwealth.

In a statement, Youngkin said, “Once again, Virginia is declaring independence – this time from a misguided electric vehicle mandate imposed by unelected leaders nearly 3,000 miles away from the Commonwealth.” Â
He continued, “The idea that government should tell people what kind of car they can or can’t purchase is fundamentally wrong. Virginians deserve the freedom to choose which vehicles best fit the needs of their families and businesses. The law is clear, and I am proud to announce Virginians will no longer be forced to live under this out-of-touch policy.”Â
The mandate, imposed by Democrats in 2021, held that all cars sold starting in 2035 would be required to be electric.

Miyares said, “Today, I’ve issued an official Attorney General Opinion that confirms that Virginians are no longer legally bound to follow the emission standards of California.”
He added, “EV mandates like California’s are unworkable and out of touch with reality, and thankfully the law does not bind us to their regulations. California does not control which cars Virginians buy and any thoughts that automobile manufacturers should face millions of dollars in civil penalties rather than allowing our citizens to choose their own vehicles is completely absurd.”
This action is a textbook demonstration of how elections have consequences.
It’s also the right move for liberty and freedom of choice, and hopefully, one that will be replicated in other states.
