People used to regard California as one of the most beautiful states in the union, abounding with natural beauty and resources.
These days, people cannot get out of California fast enough after years of Democrat control.
And Gavin Newsom had instant regret after creating this public design contest.
Gavin Newsom just embarrassed himself after opening this design contest to the public
Following the discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill nearly two hundred years ago, people flocked far and wide to strike it rich in California.
Although the gold dried up quickly, people continued to flock to California for the excellent weather, natural beauty, and plentiful opportunities.
In today’s world, California has a reputation for drugs, violent crime, high taxes, and big government.
Millions of Californians have fled the Golden State, and those who have stayed often lament the pathetic conditions found in many parts of the state.
Most recently, fed-up Californians voiced their outrage with Gavin Newsom in the form of sarcastic coin designs.
These coin designs stem from Governor Gavin Newsom’s plea to the public to help design California’s Innovation Dollar.
In case you do not keep up with the United States Mint, every state has a chance to submit a design for their respective dollar coin, which features an invention that came from the state.
Many have compared this dollar coin program to the State quarter program, which similarly allowed every state to submit a design that was featured on the back of a quarter.
These coins will then be created in the Denver and Philadelphia Mint for circulation and the San Francisco Mint for collector editions.
While some Californians submitted designs with Californian inventions and inventors, others created designs featuring homeless encampments and other snarky references to California’s many plagues.
On April 25, Governor Gavin Newsom issued the initial call for designs to the public via X, posting on his official account.
The tweet read, “Calling all members of the Tortured Coin Designers Department… CA is getting its own $1 coin to honor innovation, slated to be issued in 2026 – and we need your help! What is a CA innovation you’d like to see featured on the coin? Send ideas to: [email protected].”
The tweet, which shamelessly references Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department, received massive backlash.
One X user named Jim Stanley replied to the tweet with a series of designs, highlighting the state’s homelessness problem.

Although it appears that Stanley used AI to generate the coin designs, the message remains the same.
Gavin Newsom and his allies have a long way to go to restore California to its former glory
Decades of Democrat control have forced millions of people and businesses to flee the Golden State.
High taxes and a relaxed attitude towards crime in many parts of the state have made life virtually unlivable for many.
Instead of addressing these issues, Newsom and his cronies have passed one radical left-wing power grab after another, making a rebound unlikely for California any time soon.
