From the Swamp politicians on Capitol Hill to the street toughs of every Democrat-controlled major US city, modern America has been overcome by looting thugs.
But every now and again someone comes along to show what it means to be a true leader in times of trouble.
And this video of a brave Buffalo man’s fight against looting thugs shows there may be some hope yet for humanity.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
One man showed his true measure during the severe blizzard that pummeled the Midwest and interior northeast over the Christmas weekend with gale force winds, snow drifts measured in feet and temperatures below zero all combining to make some of the worst weather in recent memory.
The death toll in the metro area, exacerbated by power outages amidst the frigid weather, stood at “at least 40,” going into the weekend, the Buffalo News reported.
Naturally, there were plenty who took advantage of the chaos.
Buffalo Police Department Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia announced that eight looters had been arrested in the city.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said, “People who are out looting when people are losing their lives in this harsh winter storm… it’s just absolutely reprehensible. I don’t know how they can live with themselves. They are the lowest of the low.”
Thugs ransacking Buffalo Family Dollar were caught off guard when this man showed up
But one brave, presumably armed, man set himself apart during the trying time.
The man was seen in a video urging people not to take items from a Family Dollar store amid the terrible weather conditions and has received a chorus of accolades on social media.

From the video it appears that the front door of the store was broken and several people inside were trying to take advantage of the fact that the store wasn’t being manned.
In the video the man can be heard saying to would-be thieves “Hey! Put the s*it back. Put the s*it back. Did you buy it? Put everything back. Come on. Everybody’s got to look out. Put everything back where it’s supposed to be. Everybody’s got to be good neighbors. You’re all making Buffalo look bad!”
Earning the key to the city
The video shared widely online had received hundreds of thousands of views as of Thursday.
Niagara Action tweeted, “Find this man and give him the key to the city! In the face of widespread looting in Buffalo during the blizzard, he went out and tried to stop it!”

It’s heartening to know that even in the middle of a breakdown of law and order there are those that are willing to stand up for what is right.
It was a mark of bravery too, as the man and his seemingly armed companion were clearly outnumbered by those that would have taken the merchandise and run had he not intervened.
And the man evidently inspired others to help.
Niagara Action tweeted out another video from the man showing as good samaritans helped board up the business.

Here’s to hoping that these men’s stories inspire people everywhere to do the right thing when the chips are down.
