The universities are in dire straits.
Radicals have successfully taken them over.
And one unhinged professor proved why Ron DeSantis’s latest plan can’t come together fast enough.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed conservative journalist and activist Christopher Rufo and others to sit on the board of the New College of Florida, the state’s smallest public institution.
New College has been in danger of having its doors shut, so DeSantis decided to try something new and make the school a beacon for traditional liberal arts education, not new-age wokeism.
Leftist radicals successfully completed their “long march through the institutions,” but DeSantis, Rufo, and other conservatives are not yet willing to abandon the universities entirely.
And their intervention cannot come soon enough because higher education is in the gutter.
Serious scholarship has been subverted by the most unhinged, radical garbage.
For decades, people sloughed off concerns that the social sciences and humanities were replete with neo-Marxist and postmodernist loons; they said that the STEM fields would be insulated.
They were wrong.
The activists have come for all disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Physics is White Supremacist?
Now Natalie Gosnell, an astrophysicist at Colorado College, claims that her field is being dominated by the usual boogeyman.
Gosnell claimed, “As an astrophysicist, I’m a product of institutions that are steeped in systemic racism and white supremacy…The tenets of white supremacy that show up [in physics] of individualism and exceptionalism and perfectionism…it’s either-or thinking, and there’s no subtlety, there’s no gray area…All of this manifests in the way that we think about our research, and what counts as good research, what counts as important research?”
So now the cosmos is racist.
These small-minded activists are destroying everything they touch.
Gosnell added, “I think because science and art have been so separated, and there’s — systemic issues within science, the metaphors that are often chosen [to discuss science] are very violent and hyper-masculine.”
She also said that she degraded herself when she was featured on Discovery channel’s How the Universe Works.
Gosnell said, “I totally played into [the hyper-masculine stereotypes], because, ooh, snazzy. I get to be on the Discovery Channel…Of course, like, the price was too high…It felt like I was masquerading, essentially, as what an astrophysicist was supposed to be like.”
The reason why this matters is because scientific grants and PhD slots and teaching positions are being determined by a candidate’s commitment to “wokeness.”
This is a corruption of the sciences, which will have real-world consequences.
The universities train future generations, so they cannot be abandoned entirely.
If DeSantis is successful in reforming New College, other red state governors should follow suit.
