American colleges are the source of so many of the country’s problems.
So many terrible “woke” ideas emerged from the universities.
And a top California university tried to cover up one jaw-dropping deal with Communist China.
Americans are slowly waking up to the reality that China is the number one geopolitical opponent of the United States.
While Communist China has several problems, they are being aided by big-money forces in the west.
And the CCP has exploited American universities by reportedly implanting spies, cultivating American assets, and stealing intellectual property.
Much of the misconduct is done under the guise of philanthropy and surface-level partnership.
For example, the University of California, Berkeley failed to properly disclose a massive deal with the CCP.
UC Berkeley in hot water over failing to disclose “joint tech venture” with CCP
The Daily Beast reported that “U.C. Berkeley has failed to disclose to the U.S. government massive Chinese state funding for a highly sensitive $240 million joint tech venture in China that has been running for the last eight years.”
The joint research project called the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) brings together Cal Berkeley and Tsinghua University—informally described as “China’s MIT”—which is controlled by the CCP’s Ministry of Education.
A Berkeley spokesperson admitted that the university failed to disclose, but downplayed it and said that the disclosure rules were different in 2016.
The spokesperson told the Daily Beast, “Like many universities across the country, UC Berkeley did not have a reporting process in place — in 2016, thus the initial sponsored research agreement was not reported…In 2018, due to national security concerns with China and countries of interest, the Department of Education’s reporting process was recertified and all universities were required to start reporting.”
During Donald Trump’s Presidency, there was a push to defund Confucius Institutes around the country on American campuses after it was discovered that they were being bankrolled by the CCP and the centers were literally spying on Chinese nationals studying abroad.
Dan Currell, a former deputy under secretary at the Department of Education told The Daily Beast that “if the facts are as Berkeley’s documents seem to assert, this is exactly what universities must report. The school isn’t complying with a clearly applicable federal statute.”
The Berkeley scandal is the latest data point that drives home the reality that Communist China is not America’s friend.
The countries can still engage in trade and have cordial relationships, but there must be an understanding that China’s geopolitical moves need to be viewed with the utmost skepticism.
