Over the past couple of years, COVID and the panic surrounding it has caused unmeasurable damage to most cities, especially New York City.
Unemployment has reached new highs, and the government reluctance to open things back up has prolonged the misery.
Fortunately, somebody is standing up against the crazies who want perpetual shutdown, and it may not be who you expect.
Like many local politicians across the nation, New York City’s new mayor, Eric Adams, took his oath of office at midnight on New Years.
Since then he has received plenty of blowback.
Perhaps the public statement he made that has turned the most amount of heads is regarding the city’s strict lockdown measures.
Just the other day Adams claimed, “We are tired of being prisoners to COVID, so let’s be smart.”
And in regards to children staying in school Adams claimed, “School is the safest place for a child.”
About damn time.
Eric Adams is no hero of freedom, but for New York City this is pretty radical.
The people of New York should rejoice in having a Mayor who actually appears to care about keeping businesses open and children educated.
Lord knows their last Mayor was a total train wreck.
New Yorkers, especially low-income earners, cannot afford to stay at home all day.
It is bad for mental health, bad for the economy, and does very little to prevent COVID from spreading.
Of course, let’s not forget that the “15 days to slow the spread” has lasted two years now.
Going forward, hopefully Adams will stick to his guns as pressure mounts from the radical Left to close businesses and schools.
New York, and the rest of the nation, may never know the full extent of the damage caused by their previous lockdowns.
