D.C. City Council has gone off the rails and they’re in the process of self-imploding.
But people have to live there.
So the House GOP just intercepted D.C. Council members and they couldn’t be more furious.
If there’s one place in the nation you’d expect the rule of law to reign supreme you’d expect it to be in Washington, D.C. which is home to some of the most important leaders and ambassadors in the world along with being a destination for all kinds of foreign dignitaries.
Instead, the leftists on Washington, D.C.’s city council seem to think it’s the perfect place to try out all kinds of pro-crime, down with America radical policies.
Their latest push was so awful even the cities’ famously far-left Mayor Muriel Bowser, who had the streets painted to honor Black Lives Matter movement, knew they were off their rockers.
D.C. Mayor could rein in fellow Democrats’ out-of-control agenda
Bowser recently vetoed a “Revised Criminal Code Act” that would have decreased the penalties criminals face for committing violent acts even as the city is dealing with a nasty crime wave.
The Council promptly overturned Bowser’s veto with a vote of 12-1.
On top of that the city passed another law called the “Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act.”
That one would have allowed illegal aliens from anywhere in the world to come to the capital of the United States and vote in local elections.
Under federal law, Congress has jurisdiction over the District of Columbia, and can reject any law passed by the DC local government.
So, the city’s latest moves quickly caught the attention of House GOP members, including Rep. James Comer (R-KY) who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
It didn’t take long for him to bring a bill in front of the House of Representatives—now controlled by the GOP—to set Washington’s council straight.
“The D.C. Council’s reckless decision to allow non-U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections is an attack on the foundation of this republic,” Comer announced in a statement.
Comer slams “irresponsible” moves by D.C. City Council as House votes to nullify two local bills
“This move by the Council is irresponsible and will only exacerbate the ongoing border crisis, subvert the voices of American citizens, and open the door for foreign adversaries to peddle influence in our nation’s capital.”
The House quickly voted to overrule the rogue city council with a vote of 250-173 to nullify the new law reducing penalties for violent crime and 260-173 to keep illegals from voting in the nation’s capital.
While the leftists in charge of D.C. throw fits over House members putting their foot down, Congress has a constitutional right to do so.
Those who have to live and work in Washington, D.C. can only hope the Senate will also figure out that homicides are up by 29%, vehicle theft has increased by 89%, and sex related crimes have increased by a horrifying 143% and vote to rein in the D.C. Council.
