Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has been infamously lax on criminal prosecution.
But there’s one thing that Gascón and others on the far-Left can’t abide by and it has nothing to do with violent crime.
Now Soros-backed LA DA Gascón has just suspended a Deputy District Attorney for this ridiculous reason.
A Deputy District Attorney was suspended without pay for five days last month because the prosecutor committed the crime of “misgendering” a sex offender.
Shea Sanna referred to repeat sex offender Hannah Tubbs, who used to be called James Tubbs, as a male.
In an interview with the LA Times, Sanna claimed that he referred to Tubbs by male pronouns because he believed Tubbs was identifying as transgender in a bid for leniency.
He also says that his suspension was a retaliation for his criticism of Gascón.
Sanna said, “They’re trying to set me up to be terminated, and they’re trying to silence me. So if that’s their goal, I’m just going to talk more.”
The prosecutors’ union also filed an unfair labor practice on Sanna’s behalf.
But the spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s office, Tiffany Blackwell said that the suspension was the result of an independent investigation into violations of the county’s policy of equity.
“They’re going to stick me on probation”
Blackwell said, “The transgender community is frequently the target of violent attacks. They are also reluctant to come forward and report their attacks because of how they’re treated in the criminal legal system. The LADA office takes seriously our responsibility to treat all people with respect and dignity no matter their gender identity.”
Sanna and his supporters believe he is in the right because Fox News obtained audio of Tubbs bragging to his father, “I’m going to … plead guilty. They’re going to stick me on probation.”
In 2014, Tubbs sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a Denny’s restroom in Palmdale, California.
Tubbs was at the time two weeks shy of his 18th birthday, but was not linked to the crime until years later when authorities matched his DNA to the Palmdale attack.
Willful leniency for a recidivist
The previous District Attorney Jackie Lacey (D) had charged Tubbs as an adult, but Gascón moved the then-26-year-old adult repeat offender’s case to a juvenile court.
According to the LA Times, “Despite the fact that Tubbs was 26 and had amassed a criminal record that included arrests for battery and assault by the time she stood in a Los Angeles courtroom on sexual assault charges, Gascón stuck to his juvenile policy, resulting in the defendant facing a short jail sentence for the sex crime.”
Blowback was swift enough that Gascón said he was making “policy adjustments” and in the future would allow for “exceptions” to his ban on charging minors as adults.
Tubbs’ attack victim said, “I’ve also heard that my attacker goes by she/them pronouns now. I see it also unfair to try him as a woman as well, seeing how he clearly didn’t act like one on Jan. 1, 2014.”
Sanna is back on the job now and hopefully he is allowed to continue his work without ridiculous politically motivated reprisals.
In the end, it’s just one more tragic example of far-Left governance run amok with real-world consequences.
