The far-Left has gotten progressively nuttier in recent years.
There’s no tradition or societal norm that is sacred to this group of loons.
Now, political thugs in Ilhan Omar’s district just did the most racist thing ever.
According to a report, Minnesota Public Schools reached an agreement with its teachers’ union to institute a policy that will discriminate against white teachers during layoffs.
The agreement with the union was reached after a two-week strike and it completely abolishes the seniority-based layoff system where teachers who had been employed the least amount of time were the first to be fired.
Fox News reported the parties to the agreement of both the school district and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers union – an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
The agreement comes only months after AFT president and top Biden administration ally Randi Weingarten called out Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ parental rights bill in Florida.
Ironically, earlier this year Weingarten made an outrageous accusation to MSNBC’s Morning Joe regarding DeSantis’ bill saying “This is the way in which wars start. This is the way in which hatred starts.”
The powerful teachers union boss has yet to make similar comments about the Minneapolis contract.
Under the new rules, if a minority teacher is set to be laid off, the district will instead fire the next least senior teacher who is white.
From the text of the agreement, set to go into effect in the Spring, “If laying off a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the district shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population.”
There’s so much wrong with this new policy that it’s tough to decide where to begin.
With seasoned, demonstrably capable teachers sidelined for potentially someone with minimal experience there’s no way this could possibly be good for students’ success.
This is already on the heels of reports that Minneapolis Public School students’ test scores are significantly below the national average.
And with labor shortages nationwide, this new policy instills little confidence in prospective teachers’ job security when the rules can be changed on a whim to align with the latest demands of Marxist dogma.
The school district’s justification for the blatant racial discrimination is to “remedy the continuing effects of past discrimination.”
This new Minnesota Public Schools’ policy isn’t the first nutty example of teachers’ efforts to institute policies favoring minority teachers in hiring and compensation in order to achieve the utopia of the latest leftist buzzword phrase of “racial equity.”
If all this isn’t enough, the new policy also favors minorities when the district reinstates teachers.
The agreement reads, “The District shall deprioritize the more senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population, in order to recall a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers.”
James Dickey is a senior trial counselor at the Upper Midwest Law Center and calls the policy racially discriminatory and unconstitutional, saying, “The collective bargaining agreement openly discriminates against white teachers based only on the color of their skin, and not their seniority or merit. Minneapolis teachers and taxpayers who oppose government-sponsored racism like this should stand up against it.”
Education is already a hot topic in this election campaign and leftist indoctrination has significantly soured the public perception of teachers’ unions and the Democrats that get elected from their campaign contributions.
The frequency of stories like these will only hasten the arrival of the day where there is a groundswell of support for scrapping the K-12 public education system altogether in favor of homeschooling and vouchers for private schools.
And that ultimately may be what it takes to make education in America once again the envy of the world.
