Parents of school-aged children constantly have to worry about whether their schools will be the next to go woke.
With more progressives taking over the public school system every day, it’s certainly a valid concern.
And Milwaukee Public Schools have just gone woke after they issued a shocking memo to their faculty and staff.
Staff asked to “decenter whiteness”
The Milwaukee Public Schools system has told its faculty and staff to “decenter whiteness” in the classroom.
The shocking revelation comes after a 33-page memo was exclusively obtained by the New Guard through Young America’s Foundation Campus Bias Tip Line.
The title of the memo is “Understanding Whiteness” and begins by saying, “Whiteness is everywhere around us. Educational practices have been rooted in whiteness and coming from a lens of whiteness for years. Educators should reflect on which elements of whiteness they see in education, which they participate in, and which elements they can work to dismantle.”
After the intro, the memo says that staff should use a resource called “Showing up for Racial Justice created list of elements of whiteness” that they can use “for reflection.”
It then continues, “Oftentimes policies, practices, systems, etc. coming from the sole lens of whiteness are taken as the norm instead of engaging in those multiple perspectives.”
Then, the memo ends with some serious virtual signaling.
It asks the reader, “How is your world view and practices within education centered in whiteness? What racists beliefs have you internalized? What are specific steps we can take to de-center whiteness in our educational practices?”
The instructors are asked to brainstorm these steps so that they can “decenter whiteness” in their curriculum.
A list of resources is also included, aimed at helping faculty and staff continue their “journey.”
It also includes a prompt that asks them to identify their stage of “white racial identity development” and includes a link to a 26-minute long YouTube video.
The video is entitled, “Whiteness: WTF?”
The reality is that if the text of this memo were to be changed from the term “whiteness” to any other race, it would immediately be deemed racist.
No school system or educational institution would tell its teachers to watch a video on YouTube called “Blackness: WTF?” or any other race, but white is just fine.
This mentality undermines individual merit
At the time of publishing, it’s unclear exactly where the memo was distributed but it seems to focus on middle and high school staff.
According to Young America’s Foundation Middle School Program Direct Tawny Kilpper, “This is classic CRT/DEI at play, and an example of what our students are up against every day in the classroom. Critical Race Theory is a destructive philosophy rooted in Marxism, that promotes hyper-racism and pushes identity politics. Diversity/Equity/Inclusion initiatives foster a victim mentality, undermine individual merit, and limit students’ sense of agency and self-reliance.”
It remains to be seen what the reaction of teachers, students, and parents will be after the memo has now been released to the public, but it likely won’t be a positive one.
