Crime has been allowed to spiral out of control.
The result has been a rise in homicide and overall lawlessness.
And one gut-wrenching murder will have you seeing red.
The U.S. murder rate jumped by an eye-popping 30% in 2020, the largest one-year increase in American history.
Sadly, the trend is not reversing as violent crime rates have returned to early 1990s levels.
And the disturbing trend was illustrated when a 38-year-old mother of four was murdered when driving for Uber to make some extra cash.
Dashcam footage captured Christi Spicuzza picking up a fare, 22-year-old Calvin Crew, in the Pittsburgh area, but Crew intended to rob her.
Crew pulled a gun on Spicuzza and she immediately pleaded for her life: “I’m begging you. I have four kids.”
Crew responded, “I got a family, too. Now drive.”
The video ended after Crew grabbed the camera.
Spicuzza was later found in a wooded area with a single gunshot to the head.
Crew allegedly used his girlfriend’s phone to procure the Uber ride.
Tanaya Mullen, Crew’s girlfriend, has not been charged in the murder, but text messages show that she may have known what was going to happen.
Mullen sent Crew a message saying, “[I’m] not going to jail if we get caught.”
Brandon Marto, Spicuzza’s fiancé, blasted Uber for not doing enough when she first went missing.
Marto said in a statement, “In the first extremely critical hours of my wife’s disappearance, when every second mattered, I feel that I could not have received less help from Uber, even though I was attempting to move mountains to find Christi . . . I don’t want to see this happen to someone else’s sister, daughter or wife . . . Uber needs to protect its drivers more and it starts here with Christi.”
Marto bought Spicuzza the dashcam that captured part of the kidnapping.
It would have taken longer to track down Crew without it.
An Uber spokesman responded and said that “no family should have to suffer such an unimaginable loss and our thoughts are with Christi’s loved ones during this difficult time. We’ve been in touch with law enforcement to support the investigation and are grateful for everything they’ve done.”
But the broader problem is that violent crime is on the uptick.
In 2020, the Pittsburgh murder rate jumped from 97 to 113, and rose again to 123 in 2021.
Pro-crime policies in Democrat-run areas have contributed to the national increase in homicide and theft.
The spike in crime has caused a rise in gun ownership, even among liberals.
Americans aren’t going to be complacent about their safety if Democrat politicians are going to sit on their hands.
