New York City’s new Mayor went on a firing spree for the most outrageous reason

The Great Resignation has been a powerful economic trend for over a year, where Americans have voluntarily left their jobs in record numbers.

From the restaurant industry to healthcare, police and firefighters, it’s been really tough lately for employers to fill and maintain positions.

New York City has not been immune to this trend but the new Mayor has gone on a firing spree for the most outrageous reason.

Recently it was revealed that New York Mayor Eric Adams fired more than 1,400 government workers – including 36 NYPD personnel, 25 Fire Department workers and 914 Department of Education staffers, all for refusing the COVID vaccination.

The number has decreased from last week, when officials estimated that 4,000 were about to be let go, but the 1,430 firings is still a substantial number.

Those employees who provided evidence of getting at least one shot before the deadline were allowed to return to work.

Adams thanked those whose hands he had forced, saying, “City workers served on the frontlines during the pandemic, and by getting vaccinated, they are, once again, showing how they are willing to do the right thing to protect themselves and all New Yorkers. Our goal was always to vaccinate, not terminate, and city workers stepped up and met the goal placed before them.”

Some union leaders disagreed with the strong-arm tactics, arguing that a single firing over a vaccine mandate is too many.

Harry Nespoli who is president of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association and the head of the Municipal Labor Council bluntly stated, “Workers should not get fired. There are a lot of people who don’t believe in putting this stuff in their bodies.”

According to an agency chart provided by the city, the NYC Housing Authority lost 101 workers who refused to get vaccinated and 40 Sanitation Department workers were fired.

This was just the first round of firings and there could be more.

The vaccine mandate was initially imposed by former far-left Mayor Bill de Blasio and Mayor Adams kept the requirement after he took office.

Now a federal judge has given the go-ahead to fire those who don’t comply with the mandate.

Unfortunately for New Yorkers, returning nanny-state leftists to office in election after election has been proven to have consequences.
