Democrats could be in for a world of hurt in just about a month as polling has shifted slightly in the GOP direction as of late.
Another devastating candidate controversy is the last thing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) needs in an environment where any race could determine control of Congress.
So now one embattled Congressman’s Saudi problem has Nancy Pelosi worried sick she’ll lose her majority.
Pennsylvania Democrat got caught funding his campaign with Middle Eastern money
Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-PA) is running scared.
He and Democrat groups have been attacking the previous employer of his Republican opponent for working with Saudi Arabia.
But now it’s come to light that Cartwright, himself, has taken tens of thousands of dollars of campaign donations linked to that Middle Eastern country.
The DCCC and Democrat PACs have been targeting Jim Bognet, the Republican candidate running for the 8th Congressional district in the hopes of unseating Cartwright, for work at the Glover Park Group.
The attack claims that he lobbied Congress to win immunity from lawsuits brought by victims of the 9/11 attack.
But Cartwright has a much juicier target on his back in this realm.
He has taken “$57,000 during his time in Congress from people who are personally registered to lobby for Saudi Arabia, people who worked directly for a Saudi Arabian company, and people who worked at lobbying shops that were at one point registered to lobby on behalf of Saudi Arabia,” Breitbart reported.
He additionally took money from corporate PACs for D.C. lobbying shops that once were registered to lobby on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
Thomas Spulak works at King & Spalding and is personally registered to lobby for Saudi Arabia.
He donated $1500 to Cartwright even as he was a registered lobbyist at the time Saudi was lobbying against the 9/11 victims bill, which is the same exact topic Democrat groups are looking to attack Bognet for in political ads.
Cartwright also took in $32,250 from D.C. lobbying firms’ corporate PACs – lobbying shops that are, or have been, registered with FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) to do work on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
What’s more he received $23,000 in campaign contributions from people who work at lobbying shops who themselves have been registered or currently are registered with FARA to do work on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
Another case of Democrat projection
The late Rush Limbaugh used to say on his radio program that to get a good idea of anything nefarious that Democrats and their aligned groups are up to, one need only to look at the angle of attack they are using against their Republican opponents, and that seems to be the case here.
It’s not surprising that Cartwright and his Democrat allies’ hypocrisy knows no bounds but in this case it is particularly blatant.
Recent polling has shown the race to be virtually tied and Real Clear Politics lists the contest as “Leans Republican.”
