And one top Democrat had a surprise visit by Merrick Garland’s henchmen after he tore into Joe Biden.
The walls could be closing in on New York Mayor Eric Adams.
Ever since rebuking Joe Biden’s disastrous border policies, Adams has suddenly found himself the target of an escalating FBI investigation regarding corruption.
Adams’s top fundraiser recently had her apartment raided, and now the FBI seized multiple phones and an iPad from Adams.
Boyd Johnson, a lawyer for the Adams campaign, said, “After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly…In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators…[Adams] immediately complied with the F.B.I.’s request and provided them with electronic devices.”
Johnson’s statement is acknowledging that wrongdoing took place, but is attempting to insulate the mayor.
Even if Adams beats the rap, the investigation is going to have a negative impact on his re-election bid.
The investigation revolves around alleged kickbacks to a construction company and officials for the Turkish government.
Adams said in a statement, “As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation—and I will continue to do exactly that…I have nothing to hide.”
Adams emerged from a crowded field of Democrats to become mayor.
Seen as the moderate candidate amid a spike in violent crime, the former police chief beat the candidates on his left flank.
The so-called progressives never liked Adams, and now he appears to have made enemies among the Democratic establishment.
Adams and other prominent Democrats chided Republicans for being hawkish on border security, but began singing a different tune when the influx of illegal aliens showed up at their doorstep.
Adams not only criticized the Biden administration, but he offered a grim warning for his city.
The mayor said at a recent public meeting, “Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this…This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City…We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month…We had a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut. Every service in this city is going to be impacted. All of us…It’s going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000. I’m telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew, we’re about to lose.”
That is precisely what Biden and his administration did not want to hear from the mayor of New York.
