The lackadaisical approach to crime prevention and deterrence preferred by the far-Left has far-reaching consequences.
As radical public officials have gained power, aided by millions of dollars from leftist billionaire George Soros and those of similar mind, crime rates have skyrocketed.
Now two Lori Lightfoot pals are facing a firestorm after one horrific crime against a Vietnam Vet.
Duo of Illinois Democrat officials released accused Vietnam Vet killers
A lawsuit has been filed to hold two Cook County officials responsible for the killing of a Vietnam War veteran.
Now those officials, Chief Judge Timothy Evans and Sheriff Tom Dart, are asking a judge to throw out the lawsuit.
73-year-old Keith Cooper suffered blunt force trauma to his head during a failed carjacking in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood in July of 2021.
The suspects accused of the killing are Frank Harris and Dushawn Williams.
Harris and Williams were both allowed to be released from jail on home monitoring devices by Evans before Cooper’s death, and it was Dart’s office that oversaw the county’s home monitoring device program.
But prosecutors say that the program didn’t go as planned.
Allegedly, the two accused were essentially allowed to move freely while on the devices, killing Cooper in a carjacking gone wrong in 2021.
The Cook County Record reports that the family filed a lawsuit against Evans and Dart, saying, “Frank Harris, then 18, and Dushawn Williams, then 17, were improperly allowed to leave their homes, even though both men previously had been charged with carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle, and were supposedly being monitored by law enforcement using electronic home monitoring while the men awaited trial on their previous charges. The complaint accuses the chief judge and the sheriff of failing to properly staff and run their electronic monitoring programs, allegedly allowing the two men accused in Cooper’s death to roam free, without intervention from law enforcement. Further, the complaint asserts Harris and Williams should have never been placed in the monitoring program, given their prior criminal histories.”
Dem officials say they’re not at fault for cimes when criminals released on electronic monitoring
Evans and Dart now claim that Illinois state absolves them of any wrongdoing because it is not their fault if accused criminals go on to commit additional crimes after they are released from jail and both are now looking to have the lawsuit thrown out.
If this isn’t the perfect example of everything that is wrong with the system in place in Illinois, it’s hard to say what is.
A Vietnam Veteran and his family have been failed by those in power in every way imaginable.
According to Breitbart News, “As of January, approximately 100 Chicago-area murder suspects were free thanks to Cook County’s electric home monitoring system. Dart’s office alone is responsible for overseeing about 2,600 suspects released on the monitoring devices — 80 percent of which are facing violent crime charges.”
Moreover, the overall crime since 2021 has jumped 37 percent while motor vehicle thefts have spiked 64 percent.
Sadly, it looks as though the only way this changes is with a complete overhaul of the policies in place, and that means electing new leadership in next month’s elections.
