Democrats announced they’re holding their 2024 convention in Chicago.
That’s a bad Omen for Biden – who hasn’t launched an official re-election bid yet – because it’s the same place as the last time an incumbent Democrat President didn’t continue on to the nomination.
And now Joe Biden is furious after this blue state ‘hero’ just beat him to a top Democrat punch.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is rumored to have presidential ambitions and might be in a position to capitalize on Joe Biden’s lack of popular support among Democrats and the public at large.
Whitmer has just signed two new gun control measures into law in Michigan in response to the February 13, 2023, Michigan State University shooting.
But the kicker is that neither of those measures would have prevented that shooting from taking place.
One of the bills is universal background check legislation and the other is a gun storage law.
NBC News reported that the MSU shooter got his guns “legally,” which means he complied with gun control laws.
But why let something so trivial as facts and logic muck things up when there’s a leftist mob to appease?
Whitmer may be shrewdly positioning herself to capitalize on anti-gun sentiment in the wake of recent mass shootings that have garnered national attention.
She checks certain boxes, being a woman (to whatever extent Democrats are able or willing to define such a thing) from a swing state that voted for Donald Trump in 2016 before narrowly backing Biden in 2020.
Democrat politicians advance their careers by virtue signaling with policies that don’t solve problems.
The reason that the problems remain is because of a focus on the things that aren’t to blame.
The facts bear this out.

Comprehensive, national data spanning 49 years contained in the General Social Survey (GSS) conducted by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago reveals that household gun ownership has declined from 48% in 1990 to less than 40% by 2020.
At the same time, violent crime has increased.
But that hasn’t deterred one prominent Democrat politician who is nevertheless intent to “do something.”
Could history repeat itself?
The choice of Chicago also represents a bad omen for Biden.
The Windy City was host of the 1968 Democrat convention which saw incumbent Lyndon Johnson decline to seek reelection amid strong anti-war sentiment among the party’s younger and increasingly leftist base.
Of course, after a highly contested primary, Hubert Humphrey (D) went on to lose to Richard Nixon (R) in a November general election that was framed around law and order, something now at the forefront of the national conversation.
The entry of Whitmer or another ambitious younger Democrat into the primaries could make for a real contest.
Time will tell how events unfold in the next year but with anemic approval ratings Biden can’t take anything for granted.
