Jamaal Bowman is joining radical groups at the hip as he sweats upcoming primary election

It hasn’t been a good year for one far-left New York congressman.

While his recognition has increased, much of it has not been in a positive way.

Now Jamaal Bowman is joining radical groups at the hip as he sweats his upcoming primary election.

New York’s congressional primary is less than a month away.

Democrats in the state’s 16th district will have the opportunity to choose between Rep. Jamaal Bowman or Westchester County Executive George Latimer on June 25th.

While Latimer has staked his reputation on matters of law and order, Bowman has, through his words and actions in office, taken a decidedly different tack.

Last year, Bowman was censured by his congressional colleagues after he broke House ethics rules when he pulled a fire alarm as the lower chamber was rushing a vote to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Now, rather than attempting to moderate his image, Bowman seems to have made the calculation that doubling down on far-left radicalism is the way to go.

Bowman is a radical and he isn’t shying away from it

With the primary election just weeks away, Bowman is embracing the support of far-left groups that are working to secure his reelection.

The New York Working Families Party and The Jewish Vote are among the groups that are backing Bowman.

Both groups have a history of taking radical positions, but Bowman was all too eager to have their support, posing for a picture with the groups.

He later wrote, “I’m inspired by the multiracial, working-class movement we’re building! From Co-op to Larchmont we’re building a movement for jobs and education, not bombs and incarceration! Shoutout to everyone who showed out [sic] yesterday. This is what people power looks like.”

In 2020, the Working Families Party wrote on social media, “We must defund **and** demilitarize the police. The NYPD isn’t just employing a few bad apples—it’s deliberately cultivating bad apples at the expense of Black and brown New Yorkers. Defund police, invest in our communities.”

The Jewish Vote has been just as vocal in its anti-cop sentiments.

That group also called for defunding the police in 2020 in the wake of the George Floyd riots and doubled down on that stance in its criticism of candidate Andrew Yang in the Democrats’ presidential primary.

On social media, they wrote, “If @AndrewYang wants to win our votes, he should focus on #TaxTheRich, Defund the Police, a #GreenNewDeal—NOT equating a nonviolent human rights tactic to literal Nazis.”

On Instagram, Bowman touted the support of Felicia Singh, a community organizer who is the director of policy and government relations at the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families.

Singh also has made it a mission to work toward defunding the police, having called for defunding as recently as last month.

On April 30th, she wrote, “I hope that what people seeing happen to students by the NYPD becomes a MASSIVE learning for people who were afraid of the word ‘defund’ but understand it now.”

In 2020 she said, “How can @NYCCouncil vote to ban chokeholds when they’re still happening in our black communities? Reforms don’t work alone. Defund the police now.”

An uphill battle for reelection?

Bowman has had the support of the Working Families Party since 2020.

At that time, the party endorsed his primary campaign, lauding him as an “excellent” alternative challenger to then-incumbent Eliot Engel, who had held the seat for over 30 years.

Bowman has his work cut out for him if he wants to return to Congress in January.

A poll conducted last month by veteran Democrat pollster Mark Mellman for a pro-Latimer group showed Bowman losing by a margin of 17%.
