Governor Gavin Newsom desperately wants to be President.
But he’s making a bad pitch because he’s governed California horribly.
And Newsom opened a can of worms that could bankrupt one major city.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is an empty suit who has repeatedly pandered to the radical leftists in his state in order to advance his career.
One of his virtue-signaling moves was to put together an exploratory panel about the state paying reparations to black residents, even though California was admitted to the union as a free state and didn’t have slavery.
The panel said that black residents should receive a payout of over $223,000, an absurd amount of money not based on fiscal reality.
California municipalities followed suit by humoring the radical proponents of reparations.
Now a San Francisco reparations panel concluded that the city should pay black residents an eye-popping $5 million.

The city’s African American Reparations Advisory Committee put out a report arguing that San Francisco’s “international reputation as a shining progressive gem in the west is undermined by its legacy of mistreatment, violence towards, and targeted racism against Black Americans…While neither San Francisco, nor California, formally adopted the institution of chattel slavery, the values of segregation, white supremacy and systematic repression and exclusion of Black people were legally codified and enforced.”
The lowest-hanging fruit
The Left always push where there’s mush, meaning they go after easy targets.
For example, campus radicals act as if universities are the most racist and inhospitable institutions in the country, when colleges are the most “woke” and tolerant places in America.
San Francisco is filled with “tolerant” liberals, so the communist activists are pushing where there’s mush.
Those who qualify must be at least 18 years old, and identify as black on public documents for at least ten years.
They also must meet two of eight criteria, one of them including being “personally, or the direct descendant of someone, incarcerated by the failed War on Drugs” or is a “Descendant of someone enslaved through US chattel slavery before 1865.”
So being the child of a drug dealer is one of allowed prerequisites for the cool five mill.
The committee added, “A lump sum payment would compensate the affected population for the decades of harms that they have experienced, and will redress the economic and opportunity losses that Black San Franciscans have endured, collectively, as the result of both intentional decisions and unintended harms perpetuated by City policy.”
Worse yet, the committee proposed that the city supplement poor recipients so that their incomes meet the Area Median Income (AMI) of roughly $97,000 for no less than 250 years.
This is absolute loony tunes, but Newsom and other Democrats have humored the radicals.
They let them in the door, and the radicals will keep pushing until they get concessions.
And when they get those concessions, it still won’t be enough.
