Democrats are constantly raving about “climate change” and pushing insane policies.
And nobody is full of more hot air about climate policy than California Governor Gavin Newsom.
But Kevin McCarthy just lit him up for ignoring the one thing he should have been doing instead of pedaling bull.
California is home to some of the most impressive and lucrative agricultural areas in the nation.
But over the past decades California politicians have been sitting on their tails rather than dealing with a coming water crisis that was anything but a surprise.
This year Gavin Newsom has been pushing for every insane climate policy under the sun from making the combustion engine illegal to putting electric charging stations in poor neighborhoods.
But House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) just called him out for failing to do the most practical thing possible to ensure California’s climatic stability.
Even with almond, avocado, and olive trees dying, Newsom has completely ignored everything he could be doing to stabilize the state’s water supply.
“I think Gavin Newsom has failed when it comes to water,” McCarthy, who represents a district in California’s Central Valley, told Fox News.
The state of California has been dealing with a “megadrought” since 2000 along with deeper “generational” droughts twice in nine years.
Typically a “generational drought” is so bad it’s expected to be seen only once in someone’s lifetime.
But this past decade has delivered more than one insanely dry stretch—the most recent worse than anything old time ranchers in their 90s have ever experienced.
“You’ll go see tens of thousands of acres that used to have nuts, almonds, pistachios, and they’re just bare,” Sam Parnagian—a third generation farmer—told Fox News. “It’s just all dust.”
And Representative McCarthy is furious Newsom hasn’t bothered to do a thing to shore up the Golden State’s water supply.
“You should store it in the abundant years to have it for the years coming forward when it comes to drought,” McCarthy told Fox News. “That would show you good management.”
Newsom campaigned on plans to increase water storage back in 2020, but McCarthy points out so far all that’s been constructed are empty political promises.
“They haven’t built any new water storage, no new dams,” McCarthy said. “They continue to let water go out into the ocean.”
Apparently, doing something as simple and practical as making a simple dam would be far too practical for his political aspirations.
He’d much rather blow billions of dollars’ worth of taxpayer money on trendy leftist policies that won’t make his state one bit better in the end.
