Gavin Newsom made a huge mistake.
He pandered to “woke” leftists in his state.
Now Newsom is considering one insane proposal that will strangle his state for good.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is desperate to raise his national profile.
He wants to come out of the bullpen and run for president if Joe Biden gets replaced by the Democrat Party.
But Newsom’s record is abysmal, and it’s only going to get worse.
Not only have Newsom and the Democrats’ supermajority in the California legislature scared away hundreds of thousands of residents and jobs, they are attempting to kill off the state once and for all with a reparations proposal.
An exploratory panel called the California Reparations Task Force, appointed by Newsom, approved payments to black residents that could reach into the millions per person.
Will Newsom go for checks approved by his Reparations Task Force?
According to Fox News Digital, payments to a single recipient could total as much as $1.2 million, for a black Californian who checks enough boxes.
Even though California was admitted to the union as a free state, and no black slaves or slave owners are alive, the task force approved the payments because of the legacy of slavery.
Leftists always push where there’s mush, and California is ripe for radical infiltration.
California Congresswoman Barbara Lee spoke at a meeting and said, “Reparations are not only morally justifiable, but they have the potential to address long-standing racial disparities and inequalities.”
But the idea that reparations will solve anything is preposterous.
Radical activists will always want more, more, more until the system completely breaks.
Rev. Tony Pierce, one of the attendees of the reparations meeting, said to the crowd, “You know that the numbers should be equivocal to what an acre was back then. We were given 40, okay? We were given 40 acres. You know what that number is. You keep trying to talk about now, yet you research back to slavery and you say nothing about slavery, nothing…So the equivocal number from the 1860s for 40 acres to today is $200 million for each and every African American.”
Even if these payments went through, radicals like Pierce would say that it is only a start but more must be done.
The state legislature would still have to pass a reparations law to be signed by Newsom, which is highly unlikely, even in California.
Moving forward with reparations payments would bankrupt the state and cause a mass exodus in short order.
In fact the state Reparations Task Force issued its recommendations just as California is already starting to default on debts.
And it is unclear how the state – and its tax base – could ever afford such massive handouts.
