Gavin Newsom has aims of being president of the United States.
But he needs to spend more time focusing at home.
And Newsom has some explaining to do about a disturbing trend on the rise a rare CA official just exposed.
Despite the weather and diverse geography, residents are fleeing California in droves.
Democrat politicians are strangling the goose that laid the Golden State egg.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 817,000 residents left California for a net negative outflow of over 300,000.
During COVID, California lost population for the first time in its history, and the trend has not reversed.
California lost a Congressional seat in 2021 due to population decline, and they’re on pace to lose more than five by 2030.
However, Governor Gavin Newsom has downplayed the problem.
During a conversation with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Newsom sarcastically said that California lost “0.3% [of its population] during COVID. My gosh.”
But losing hundreds of thousands of residents continuously is not a good trend.
As is the case with many Democratic strongholds, people are leaving because of the high taxes and onerous regulations.
On top of that, California is the “woke” capital of America.
Every terrible far-left idea gets tested in California first.
One example of California kookiness occurred when education officials tried to shoehorn in daily prayer to Aztec gods as part of the statewide curriculum.
It ain’t just high housing costs
The taxes and regulations have contributed to higher cost-of-living expenses.
Will Swaim of the California Policy Center, explained, “There’s no question that housing costs are huge, but that really ignores the myriad other ways that California has simply destroyed business opportunity, especially for the working class…It is a very expensive state to live in and the poorer you are the more that housing cost number hurts. But how about gasoline? Every week people are putting almost double what our fellow Americans in other states are putting in their cars.”
According to a poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, 45% of residents are considering leaving the state.
One such person was Republican State Senator Steve Wilk.
After far-left Democrats proposed legislation that would force judges to favor parents who affirm their child’s “new” gender in custody disputes, Wilk said, “I’m now in year 11 in the state legislature, and all the time we’re proposing policies to protect children. After 11 years, I’ve come to the conclusion that we need to start protecting parents…In recent years, we have put government bureaucrats between parents, children, and doctors when it comes to medical care—and now we have [AB 957] where if a parent does not support the ideology of the government, [children are] going to be taken away from the home…In the past when we’ve had these discussions and I’ve seen parental rights atrophied—I’ve encouraged people to keep fighting. I’ve changed my mind on that. If you love your children, you need to flee California. You need to flee…I’m not gonna stay in this state because it’s just too oppressive, and I believe in freedom. And so I’m gonna move to America when I leave the legislature.”
Hundreds of thousands of ex-Californians have beaten Wilk to the punch.
