A drive through nearly any community in California will demonstrate just how bad homelessness has gotten in the Golden State.
Cripplingly high home prices, rampant illegal drug use, and extreme far-left social policies have created a perfect storm for a homeless crisis in California.
But Gavin Newsom got a migraine after reading this devastating report.
Homelessness causes pain for millions of Americans and Democrats are running out of options
Home prices have reached record highs all across the nation, causing many people to reconsider home ownership.
These high prices, combined with the proliferation of deadly and highly addictive drugs like fentanyl have created the perfect storm for a homelessness crisis.
Homelessness impacts every community across America but especially impacts many Democrat-controlled states and cities.
In California for example, homelessness has completely overwhelmed many communities across the state.
As a result, California Governor Gavin Newsom helped to establish so-called Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) courts, which are designed to curb this crisis.
According to Cal Matters News, these courts are supposed to all Californians to “petition someone with untreated mental illness into civil courts, where a judge would order a treatment plan and require county mental health departments to provide it.”
However, it appears as if this program is already off to a bad start.
At a recent meeting in Orange County, officials did everything in their power to lower expectations about this program, which begins to take effect this October.
Veronica Kelley, Orange County’s chief of Mental Health and Recovery Services, told the audience “What we’re here to do is share the facts to help manage expectations.”
Kelley then went on to claim that this program will take some time to roll out, and that it will not have very many immediate effects.
Luke Bergmann, director of the San Diego County Behavioral Health Services department, later said: “There’s been a presumption — and this is, to be clear, driven by how the administration talked about CARE Court at the outset — a broad presumption that CARE Court is going to fix homelessness or have a broad impact on the nexus of homelessness and behavioral health.”
He added, “Actually going to be a pretty small program. It’s not going to be this thing that dramatically changes homelessness.”
California Democrats are doing next to nothing to prevent homelessness in their state
Based on the comments from these local officials, it appears as if the CARE Courts will do little to nothing to help curb the homelessness crisis in California.
Instead of addressing the root causes of the homelessness crisis like drug proliferation and out-of-control costs, the state is more interested in wasting taxpayer dollars.
Programs such as the CARE Courts cost taxpayers millions and only serve to make Democrat politicians, and the people who vote for them, feel better about themselves.
