Gretchen Whitmer was one of the worst governors during the pandemic.
She abused her power and made state residents suffer for no good reason.
But she just got some terrible news about her political future.
FBI kidnapping plot governor could regret one decision
Democrat Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer—who was the subject of a kidnapping plot pushed by FBI informants—just got some bad news about a popular proposal she vetoed.
Whitmer implemented some of the most arbitrary and tyrannical guidelines during COVID.
She closed down sections within big-box stores, and prohibited people from traveling to their second homes.
Meanwhile, her husband joked about taking his boat out on the lake as the state was in lockdown.
Ironically, COVID helped expose the rot that has taken place in public education because parents got to see the garbage their children were being fed via distance learning.
COVID helped spur the School Choice movement, which is rapidly gaining steam.
School Choice effectively means that state education dollars follow the student, not the school.
Therefore, failing government schools will lose students as parents opt to send their children to better-performing schools.
And there’s nothing the Left hates more than competition and standards of conduct.
That’s why Whitmer vetoed a School Choice bill.
But the bill could be coming back thanks to a grassroots effort in the state.
The Daily Wire reported that “a School Choice group in Michigan has cleared one of two major hurdles it needs to circumvent Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s (D-MI) veto of a School Choice measure…Let MI Kids Learn overwhelmingly topped the number of signatures the group needed in order to put its petition for a tax-incentivized education scholarship program in front of the Michigan legislature for a second time. The petition needed 340,047 signatures, and got over 520,000.”
It’s telling that Democrats are so against parents being able to have more control over their kids’ education.
Democrats lose when they fight parents
Terry McAuliffe lost his gubernatorial reelection bid in Virginia largely because the then incumbent Democrat said that parents had no role in their children’s education.
Democrats would ban homeschooling—like Germany has done—if they could get away with it.
The Daily Wire added that “the petition has been submitted to the Michigan Bureau of Elections, which will review and validate the signatures and send them to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers, which will certify the votes and send the proposal back to the legislature. The legislature, led by Republicans, previously passed several bills to set up the Student Opportunity Scholarship program in October, but Whitmer vetoed them the next month. If Michigan’s legislature approves the School Choice program a second time, it will become law. Whitmer will not have the power to veto it again.”
Citizens standing up to petty tyrants like Whitmer is what democracy actually looks like, but it’s not the kind of democracy that Democrats actually want.
