Earlier this year Eric Adams trotted out an Orwellian plan that was supposed to somehow make New Yorkers feel better.
Instead, he’s failing to deliver on that ‘creepy’ promise.
And New Yorkers are having this expensive gadget literally swiped off their heads.
New York City mayor Eric Adams was elected on promises he would get a handle on crime in the Big Apple.
But at this point, the mayor of the biggest city in America is utterly failing to deliver on his plans to make the city safer.
Despite an additional 5 billion in tax dollars spent to shore up law enforcement efforts, the city’s crime rate jumped by an astonishing 23.5% over the past year.
Summing up his failure thus far as part of his “rookie” year as mayor, the former police chief made his creepy Orwellian plans for 2023 clear.
This is how “Big Brother is protecting you” in the Big Apple
“It blows my mind how much we have not embraced technology, and part of that is because many of our electeds are afraid. Anything technology they think, ‘Oh it’s a boogeyman. It’s Big Brother watching you,’” Politico quoted the mayor as saying. “No, Big Brother is protecting you.”
That assertion instantly horrified privacy advocates.
“The NYPD has a decade-long history of abusing its surveillance operations to target Black New Yorkers, Muslim New Yorkers, political protests and every aspect of dissent,” said Albert Fox Cahn, head of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project told the news outlet. “These are technologies that would be chilling in anyone’s hands. But to give an agency with such a horrifying record of surveillance abuse even more power, at a time when they face dwindling oversight, is a recipe for disaster.”
But it seems giving up privacy in the name of security isn’t working so far anyway.
The personal safety of Big Apple residents is being further shattered—and now anyone sporting the latest version of one pricy Apple gadget is a possible target.
According to the NYPD, at least 21 NYC residents have had their Apple AirPods Max headphones swiped right off their heads.
The Apple users who paid $549 for the fancy noise canceling headphones have become the victims of a group of four thieves zipping around the city on mopeds.
In most cases, the bold criminals are swiping the earpieces off their victims in broad daylight during the mid-to-late afternoon.
It seems the woke left’s crime culture has been unleashed on America’s biggest city—and every Democrats’ plan to fix the situation is more likely to backfire than work.
Meanwhile, New Yorkers can’t even take a jog with their favorite headphones on without expecting to be accosted.
