The Left shield themselves from the consequences of their own policies.
But that shield has broken down.
Now “defund the police” liberals are facing the tough reality they were warned about.
Pro-crime prosecutors bankrolled by George Soros have spurred a significant jump in crime.
Repeat criminals have been put back on the street in a revolving door thanks to zero-bail policies in some jurisdictions as well as far-left DAs who refuse to prosecute cases.
The policies along with extreme rhetoric like “defund the police” have demoralized law enforcement around the country.
In light of the George Floyd riots, many police officers around the country quit or retired early.
Now some cities are having trouble hiring cops.
In San Francisco, the city only budgeted for 2,023 police officers, its lowest total since 2004.
Just the News reported that “[a]s of September 2023, there are 1,578 full-duty sworn members, which is an unprecedented low point in recent history, according to the city. This is approximately 600 fewer officers than required to staff the police department at a level that would meet the city’s public safety needs, according to the department’s assessment.”
The shortfall has forced cities to fork over even more taxpayer dollars to meet their basic law enforcement needs.
Just the News added that San Francisco “is struggling to compete with the compensation of other police departments recruiting efforts. For example, the city of Alameda recently began offering $75,000 new hire recruiting bonuses.”
Another component to the cop shortage is police officers do not want to have their lives ruined in a viral moment.
Meanwhile, repeat offenders know that they can commit property crimes under $950 in California with near zero fear of being prosecuted.
Across the bay in Oakland, the city is experiencing similar problems.
Crime has gotten so bad that the Oakland chapter of the NAACP called on the city to issue a state of emergency.
The organization wrote in a statement, “Oakland residents are sick and tired of our intolerable public safety crisis that overwhelmingly impacts minority communities. Murders, shootings, violent armed robberies, home invasions, car break-ins, sideshows, and highway shootouts have become a pervasive fixture of life in Oakland. We call on all elected leaders to unite and declare a state of emergency and bring together massive resources to address our public safety crisis.”
All of these problems stem from leftist ideology run amok.
It’s up to liberals in these cities to stand up to the radicals before it’s too late.
