Colorado killer arsonist caught after burning down wrong house in an eye-popping revenge scheme gone wrong

It was a horrific crime that was later revealed to be completely senseless.

Because of it, an entire community will never be the same again.

Now a Colorado killer arsonist has been caught after burning down the wrong house in a revenge gone wrong.

Back in 2021, local Denver TV station ABC-7 showed a fire at a Denver home and what appeared to be three suspects wearing hoodies and masks.

A firefighter revealed to the TV station that five people were found dead inside the home that night.

Djibril Diol, 29, Adja Diol, 23, and their 22-month-old daughter, Khadija Diol all perished in the fire, in addition to Hassan Diol, 25, and her 6-month-old daughter, Hawa Beye.

Three other people leaped from a second-floor window to escape and suffered broken bones.

Authorities eventually found the trio responsible for the blaze.

Dillon Siebert was just 14 years old at the time of the fire.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to three years in juvenile detention and seven years in a state prison program for young inmates.

Gavin Seymour, 19, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of second-degree murder.

The third suspect in the case is Kevin Bui, who was 16 at the time but is now 20 years old.

He was allegedly the leader of the group that ignited the blaze that killed the Senegalese family.

A grotesque blaze was set to get even for a stolen iPhone

The especially chilling part to his actions is that they all stemmed from a “barbaric revenge plot” for Bui to find his stolen iPhone.

According to CBS Colorado, Bui was robbed in a Denver park of his personal items, including his phone.

He made his way to the home after using the “Find my iPhone” app to locate it and then set the blaze.

He later admitted to police that the arson was staged as “part of a plan to get even.”

It turns out that even though the app located the phone at the home, the family living there had no connection to it.

Bui was prosecuted as an adult, and he pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.

He had previously faced 60 other charges, but those were dropped due to a plea deal that proposes keeping him in jail for 60 years.

Bui is scheduled for sentencing in July.

Denver is an increasingly unsafe city

New information shows that Denver has become a markedly more violent city in recent years.

Aggravated assaults have nearly doubled since 2012.

This marks the fastest rate of growth of any city with more than half a million residents.

Denver Police say there have been 4,790 aggravated assaults in the last year, up from 2,463 in 2012.

Worse yet, homicides have tripled in the last decade and now happen roughly twice a week, rising from 31 in 2014 to 90 in 2022, according to FBI data.
