During the riots of 2020, many of America’s monuments and memorials were shamelessly vandalized and often destroyed.
Although the media pretended that this was a rejection of white supremacy, the truth is that monuments from all parts of American history were destroyed, regardless of their meaning and significance.
Now California Democrats are baffling history buffs by erasing the past with this latest move.
America may never recover from the damage brought on during the George Floyd riots
Following the death of George Floyd in May 2020, the entire nation erupted in violence and chaos.
In most cities and communities across the nation, property was destroyed, including hundreds of monuments and memorials.
It was not just Confederate monuments and memorials that were destroyed, but also countless historic monuments that had nothing to do with the Civil War that were toppled out of pure thoughtless rage.
Of those toppled was a monument consecrated in 1965 in front of the California state capitol building, depicting Spanish priest Junipero Serra, who founded a number of missions up and down the Pacific coast.
Serra passed away in 1784, and many credit him for bringing Christianity to California, paving the way for the modernization of a state that has developed some of the world’s most lauded technological advances.
In 2015, Pope Francis canonized Serra during his first-ever visit to the United States, officially making him a Saint within the Catholic church.
Left-wing extremists see Serra as a representation of European colonialism, also citing spotty historical records that accuse him of killing native people.
On Tuesday, California lawmakers unveiled a new 8-foot-tall bronze statue that stands in the place of Serra’s toppled statue, this time depicting William J. Franklin Sr., a leader within the Miwok tribe.
The statue was unveiled during a ceremony, which hosted as many as 400 people, and included lawmakers, tribal leaders, and descendants of Franklin.
During the ceremony, Andrew Franklin, a grandson of William J. Franklin Sr. said “We’ve always grown up holding our culture, very high in regard and respecting each other, respecting our culture. That was always huge for us, this is just very surreal.”
What the replacement of Sacramento’s monuments reveals about American culture
During the 2020 riots, many statues were torn down simply because they featured White men.
Rather than stand up to these rioters, many lawmakers sat back and watched with smiles on their faces, as monuments symbolizing American culture toppled to the ground.
Revisionist history has increasingly become part of the Left’s playbook, and for many on the Left, this fight will not end until every part of America’s history is destroyed and remade in their perverse image.
Which monuments will the left-wing outrage mob target next?
