There is nothing more American than heading down to your local sports bar, getting some wings and a beer, and watching your favorite team play.
But like with everything that makes America great, the Left is finding ways to destroy it.
Now Bostonians are scratching their heads over this woke change to sports bars.
The radical Left in America is the personification of a buzzkill
Anytime there is a fun tradition within American culture, the Left comes swooping in to ruin it.
Some examples include sports team names, “offensive” Halloween costumes, good-looking female cheerleaders, and more.
But now the Left has declared a jihad on television.
Not television itself, but rather television broadcasts that are “not accessible for each and every person”.
That sounds insane, but that is exactly why the far-left Boston City Council is now mandating that televisions in public places across Boston (such as sports bars and gyms) must have closed captioning always turned on.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said in a statement that “Improving communications access in public spaces across Boston is critical to Boston truly being for everyone,”
The City Council said in a separate statement that “This will also be beneficial to the general public, as it increases access to information in crowded and noisy commercial spaces where it may be difficult to hear.”
This move by the City of Boston is yet another example of bureaucrats forcing private businesses to bend over backward to accommodate a minuscule portion of the population.
Now every single television viewer in public spaces will have to live with half of the television picture being covered with closed caption dialogue to accommodate the deaf and hearing-impaired community.
Policies like this are to be expected when it comes to the far Left.
Rather than focusing on the issues that really matter such as the economy and skyrocketing crime, the Boston City Council is more interested in passing measures like this one.
This measure will likely have little to no effect on the day-to-day life of deaf people but will reduce the quality of life for the vast majority of people who prefer not to have closed captioning.
More likely than not, this measure was passed as a result of virtue signaling.
How this measure will be enforced is not entirely clear, but expect this to become a problem moving forward as lawsuits from small businesses and people who are deprived of closed captioning are most likely imminent.
Democrats need to allow the free market to make adjustments like this, and forcing people to put on closed captioning is a prime example of wasteful government overreach.
The people of Boston and small business owners in Boston ought to fight back against this ridiculous anti-business restriction.
