Blue state Democrats’ strong arm “green” EV tactics just backfired

Leftists love the idea of forcing Americans into Electric Vehicles.

But the truth is coming out that while blue state politicians want everyone to own one of the shock hazards, you may not be able to actually drive them.

Now, blue state Democrats’ strong arm “green” EV tactics just majorly backfired.

Blue states are marching ahead with bans on gas vehicles.

California is leading the way with Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom signing an executive order in late 2020 to end the sale of new diesel or gasoline cars in the state by 2035.

For those who champion EVs, and want to force everyone into them, there’s no fault with the supposedly “green” cars so big they won’t overlook it.

Cold snap highlights major problems with blue state Democrats strong-arming the switch to electric cars

EV owners have found that their pricey new vehicles are not functioning properly in the cold, with even the door handles freezing shut and the electric vehicles are unable to charge.

Canadian meteorologist Rachel Modestino posted a video of her Tesla door handle refusing to budge, saying, “Bet ya didn’t think of ice in the Tesla design.”

Of course, stuck door handles don’t come with nearly the financial nightmares that battery problems do.

Even cheap, used electric vehicles are expensive

The Chevrolet Bolt is one of the cheapest Electric Vehicles on the market and a used one will still set you back “around $20,000,” according to a recent report from automotive news site The Drive.

And if the battery goes bad on an EV, you could be coughing up huge sums, with a battery replacement running about $10,000 on the Bolt.

And it only goes up from there.

The Drive noted that for the Bolt’s closest competitor at the low end of the EV price range—the Hyundai Ioniq (also around $20,000 used)—the $17,845 battery replacement cost is “almost as much as the car itself.”

And with those eye-popping prices, the recent cold snap has left many EV owners worried.

Batteries struggle in the cold

Domenick Nati, a radio show host, told Business Insider that he found himself unable to travel for the holidays because his Tesla S electric car wouldn’t charge in the cold.

When temperatures plunged to 19 degrees, he documented the trouble on TikTok.

Nati said, “Two hours went by and not much changed. It was very slow, and the numbers got lower as the temperature dropped. Eventually, it stopped charging altogether.”

He later tried to charge the car at home, to no avail and because there were no Ubers or Lyfts working in his area, Nati was forced to miss being with his son on Christmas Day.

This seems to be a common problem in cold weather.

A new report from battery analysis firm Recurrent, a company that analyzes data to produce those reports about battery health, found that electric cars lose range in cold weather and for drivers that generally means more charging.

30% range loss in the cold

According to Recurrent, “The distance driven between charging sessions drops significantly along with outside temperature, and at a greater rate than the depth of battery discharge. EV drivers self-reported an average 30% range loss in winter, and 60% of those drivers said they charged ‘a little’ or ‘a lot’ more when it’s cold.”

All this comes as blue states are trying to force these vehicles that still have major quality control issues on a skeptical public.

Of course there are fixes but blue state politicians won’t like them.

If virtue-signaling leftists want to accept unreliable vehicles in the name of “progress” that’s their prerogative, but if Democrat politicians want to force these expensive lemons on the rest of America, they’re going to find themselves on the outside looking in.

And when that cold day comes, they had better hope that a warm shelter is within a safe walking distance.
