The default reaction from those on the left is to simply deny the truth that crime is a problem.
That’s because admitting that a problem exists would require a solution, and the solutions needed simply don’t comport with radical ideology.
And now Baltimore’s Mayor has announced something awful.
A shooting that wounded teens in the city occurred during a fight on the night of April 9th.
According to WBAL-TV, the fight included a group of more than 200 teens and took place in the city’s Inner Harbor at 9 PM.
The cops tried to stop the fights, but a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were shot.
One of the teens was in critical condition, and the other was in stable condition as of Monday.
After the incident, two suspects were arrested, one of which had a loaded gun and matched a description of the shooter and another who was suspected of having a weapon in a police garage.
For Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D), this was the final straw and he announced his intention to enact a 9 p.m. curfew for people 14 years old and younger.
Additionally, Scott has also announced a 10 PM curfew for teens aged 15 to 17, according to WJZ-TV.
Mayor wants to punish 100,000 Baltimore youth after some 200 were involved in a deadly fight
Scott said, “I want everyone to hear me and hear me clearly. We are going back to the old days. We will be enforcing a youth curfew as we move into the latter spring and summer months. It’s not just about making sure we are getting them off the street, but making sure that we are supporting them and figuring out what’s going on with them and their families. It is not normal for a person to be that far away from their home, and no one knows where they are or cares for them.”
Police data show that there have been over 31,000 incidents of violent and property crime in Baltimore from April 2022 until April 2023.
The party of punishing people who aren’t responsible for problems
Larceny and aggravated assault were the most common crime incidents.
Murder rates have risen significantly in the city in recent years, now averaging over 330 per year, a 50% increase over the early 2010s.
Of course, it’s almost certain that the vast majority of those were committed by individuals over the age of 18.
